Childish Gambino maintains radio silence, but evidence continues to mount.
Childish Gambino, real name Donald Glover, has always worn his outsider persona with pride. Whether or not he deserves the oddball label, the multi-talented artist has undeniably cultivated his own lane. He has created a short film “Clapping For The Wrong Reasons” and dropped it without any context, released a screenplay to go along with his album and most recently got his comedy show “Atlanta” green light for a ten episode season by FX. Nobody else moves in the same patterns as Gambino, which is part of the reason he’s cultivated such an avid fan base. Now we’ve got some more hints that his next album is close to finished.
While Glover has said nothing himself, some tweets from 2015 showed him working on some kind of music project, and now engineer, producer and songwriter Andrew Dawson’s website has provided another clue to the unnamed Childish Gambino project. Dawson has worked with everyone from Kanye West to T-Pain, and he recently uploaded a new resume to his website to highlight his work on “Waves,” one of many standout tracks from West’s recent album The Life of Pablo.
However, just one row down from the Kanye track is Childish Gambino’s name next to a teasingly promising “Forthcoming Album” credit for mixing. Mixing is done pretty far along in the recording process, so perhaps this means that we could hear some new Gambino sooner rather than later.
Childish Gambino’s last project was the STN MTN free release, which we absolutely recommend giving a listen.
