Chick-Fil-A's built a reputation as one of the leading chicken restaurants in the country. While there's many references to the restaurant in music and pop culture, not everyone has had the chance to try their tender chicken. However, that's set to change soon. Chick-Fil-A announced their plans to open their first international franchise in Toronto earlier today.

Chick-Fil-A will be opening their doors in Toronto for their first franchisee-owned international location outside of the United States in 2019. The famed chicken joint plans to open more than a dozen restaurants throughout the 6ix and its surrounding area. The chicken they use for their food will come from Canadian sources.

President and COO of Chick-Fil-A, Tim Tassopoulos, explained why Toronto is a perfect fit for their first international franchisee owned location.

"Toronto is a great city – with diverse and caring people and a vibrant restaurant culture with a deep talent pool," he said. "These strengths align perfectly with Chick-fil-A's focus on community giving, delivering a premium product, and working with passionate people that can grow with our company – making Toronto the perfect choice for international expansion."

While Toronto will be the first city with a franchisee-owned restaurant, there is a Chick-Fil-A inside of the Calgary International airport with a limited menu

It's a big move for Chick-Fil-A and finally, Canadians will be able to understand the hype surrounding their chicken.
