His opinion seems legit.

Charlamagne Tha God has weighed in on the "King of R&B" debate and offered his personal selections. "The funny part about that whole situation is that most people who are jumping into that conversation are definitely not the 'King of R&B,'" said the radio host as he includes including Jacquees, Bobby Valentino in the lot. From his perspective, the title is "a generation thing", citing Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, and a few others as examples of past greats of the genre. In the contemporary sphere, Chris Brown and Miguel take the seat on the throne.

The author breaks it down to the fact that they have put out some of the best R&B records of the decade: "I don't think anybody makes better music that Miguel and Chris Brown, especially Miguel. The two best R&B records in the past 15 years are Miguel's 'Adorn' and Chris Brown's 'Back To Sleep'" He specifies that he rocks with the dirty version of Brown's track, in which he croons "f*ck you back to sleep."

He also offers his selection of the top rap album and top record of the year. Nipsey Hussle's Victory Lap wins, in Charlamagne's opinion. His choice for song of the year is Lil Duval's "Smile Bitch" which he welcomes as a "mantra."
