Kendall Jenner has sparked controversy for appearing in Vogue magazine with hair many have likened to an afro. The widely circulated photographs in question depict Jenner and fellow model Iman Hammam in a number of stylish looks celebrating Vogue's  CFDA Fashion Fund. For the shoot, Jenner's hair was teased to embody a volume and texture that is unlike her usual sleek locks.

The debate over whether the hairstyle was offensive has divided social media and has even prompted an apology from Vogue. "The image is meant to be an update of the romantic Edwardian/Gibson Girl hair which suits the period feel of the Brock Collection and also the big hair of the '60s and the early '70s - that puffed-out, teased-out look of those eras," the publication explained. "We apologise if it came across differently than intended and we certainly did not mean to offend anyone by it."

During a recent run-in with a journalist from TMZ, The Breakfast Club host and Black Privilege author Charlemagne Tha God declared he didn't think much of the photographs. "That's an afro?" he asked after seeing it. "That's considered an afro? Ain't no naps in that -can't be an afro if there ain't no naps in it baby."
