Blocboy JB has managed to become one of the year's breakout artists, largely catapulted by the strength of Drake collaboration "Look Alive," and the infectious dance-assisted "Shoot." While some may feel he's already worn out his welcome (with cries of "industry plant" swirling in our comment section), it would appear that Blocboy is already proving divisive. Fresh off the drop of his new mixtape "Simi," the Memphis rapper continues to polarize listeners through his unique approach to trap music.

Borrowing elements from "Soundcloud Rap," primarily the brevity and simplistic production flourishes, Blocboy's "No Velcro" stands out as an accessible solo effort. It felt right to examine Blocboy on his own merit, opting for a selection without a featured guest. The song itself shines with a childlike, plonking instrumental, over which Blocboy delivers unbridled lyrical glee. "30 in my car, make 'em pop a wheelie, bitch I keep that chocolate like I'm Wonka, Willy," raps Blocboy, "bananas in my pocket, it's a jungle, he tried to rob me but I had a chopper, silly!"

What do you think? Is Blocboy JB here to stay?

Quotable Lyrics

30 in my car, make 'em pop a wheelie
Bitch I keep that chocolate like I'm Wonka, Willy
Bananas in my pocket, it's a jungle
He tried to rob me but I had a chopper, silly!
