Days after announcing Fever, his first studio in four years, Detroit's Black Milk has come through with the project's lead single "Laugh Now Cry Later." The track features Milk exploring some of today's hot button issues, weighing in one discourses of the social and racial variety. Over some shuffling production and sporadic bassline, Milk drops some knowledge with lines like "from raps and movies to black is beauty, cops didn't feel the same, so he had to shoot me."
In an interview with XXL, Milk explains that the single is among Fever's darker cuts, stating "It’s easily one of the darkest songs on the album and represents the shift from my original intentions to make a 'happy' album to letting the darker sounds flow out of me. On this one, I touch on a number of topics presented on social media, such as being woke/fake woke, cultural appropriation, police brutality, and men ignorantly giving their two cents on women’s issues. I also address the social media rollercoaster that takes us from outrage to comedy within seconds."
Black Milk's Fever drops February 23rd.
