We had to highlight at least one cut off BeatKing's new Club God 5 mixtape, 19 tracks of ratchet-fueled adrenaline and Houston-bred authenticity. The tape was led by the Stunt N Dozier-produced "BussibaK," and BeatKing fans were glad to see "Real Life," another collab with the Dallas production duo, show up on Club God 5.
The evil club production on "Real Life" is throwback in the most refreshing way, letting the sounds of hardware (and not software) do the work. So much of today's rap is built on the pretense of spontaneity, when songs are actually put together piece-by-piece by engineers in post-production. Not in the case of BeatKing. The blistering raps he drops here come out in one fearsome burst, and the listener can feel his passion for the art form. It's more ruthless material from the Club Godzilla.
