    Atmosphere don't quite fit in with the rap scene that is usually portrayed on this website, but the Minneapolis-founded group has been doing their thing now for 26 years, and counting. As one of alternative rap's most successful acts, it's time that they got the throwback treatment. For today, we're focusing on the output from the group's first few albums, beginning with 1996's Overcast! and ending with 2005's You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having.

    The Soundest Festival will take place for the eighth consecutive year this Spring, and the lineup for the 2015 event features a characteristically wide range of hip hop artists. Atmosphere will continue their reign as headliners, while J. Cole, Big Sean, Ice Cube, Ludacris, Logic, and Yelawolf round out the big acts. Of course, the fest also sports a solid helping of underground heroes, Brother Ali, Aesop Rock, Vic Mensa, Hopsin, Freddie Gibbs. and Vince Staples among them.

    Atmosphere have brought their "North of Hell" tour all around the map, and now they're on the final leg of the tour, which will be wrapping up on November 23rd in their home of Minneapolis. Before they head home though, they'll be hitting New York at the end of this week, on Sunday, November 16th.

    After a successful Canadian run of "North of Hell" tour dates, Atmosphere are ready to take things to the United States for the American leg of the "North of Hell" tour. They'll be promoting their new album, Southsiders, while on the road. The U.S. tour will run through out the summer, kicking off on June 10th in Philadelphia and finally wrapping up on September 20th in Aspen, Colorado.

    This week the hip-hop underground proves you don't need to be mainstream to top the Billboard 200, at least these days. Two mainstays within the underground movement debuted within the top 10 of the Billboard charts this week. Both have been around for more than a decade, and thus have developed loyal followings before the age of torrenting and illegal downloads, which perhaps works in their favor now.

    Atmosphere have a lengthy history within the underground rap scene, and while they've never quite made it to mainstream stardom (there is probably a reason: they don't want too), they've developed large and loyal underground following. The duo, individually known as Slug and Ant, released their debut album Overcast!, then with another member by the name of Spawn, in 1997.

Today we received the good news that they'll be dropping a new album in May, titled Southsiders.

While we've had no further updates from Atmosphere's camp on this apparent finished album, producer Alchemist reveals he's got some collaborations with Atmosphere's Slug in the bag.

For the past five years, he's been creating a "100% for-charity global hip-hop" compilation titled World View, which features the likes of Joell Ortiz, Sean Price, Chino XL, KRS-One, Slug (of Atmosphere), Jadakiss, The Kid Daytona, ILL BILL, Vast Aire, Pace Won (of the Outsidaz), Rickie Jacobs and Beretta 9 (of Killarmy), with production from Harry Fraud, Domingo, Numonics, ATG, Steel Tipped Dove, Fafu and more.
