Today marks the culmination of the strangest rap career genesis this country’s ever seen, one that has included an MTV reality show, a hip-hop trio name Three Loco, OG Ron C, a Harmony Korine film, a slew of investigative articles and perhaps most importantly, about as much hate as the internet can muster. The career in question is that of RiFF RAFF, AKA Jody Highroller, Jody Three Moons,...

B.o.B. is one of those artist that currently stands in a grey area: he's attained mainstream success thanks to catchy tunes, but he's also a seasoned rapper, and finds himself balancing between full-out pop music and more hardened hip-hop. So who are his main fans, the picky hip-hop heads or the avid radio listeners? On No Genre 2 he makes a plea for both.
Three years, two albums and two...
It hasn't been too long since we've heard
from the other Mobb Deep member, Prodigy, who just released an album in July,
but he's back again with his second release post-prison. There has been a lot
of talk about Prodigy lately, regarding the controversy surrounding his
relationship with the other half of Mobb Deep, Havoc. This time around though
Prodigy allows the music to do the talking as...
Yo Gotti has been in the rap game for well
over a decade. Though he has been popular in his hometown since the beginning,
Yo Gotti tirelessly worked the mixtape and underground circuit, steadily
building a buzz by collaborating with various artists such as Lil Wayne, Nicki
Minaj, Gucci Mane, Birdman, Bun B, 8Ball and Jadakiss. His studio debut suffered
a series of delays but Live From...
albums have a way of working as a litmus test for hip-hop's up and
comers. Mixtapes and guest appearances are one thing, but for an
artist to prove that he/she can create a strong cohesive album while
delivering on lyrics, beats, and bravado is another. Meek Mill seems
capable of preforming this balancing act with Dreams
& Nightmares, a
solid effort that shows glimmers of...

Montana’s latest mixtape, which released November 20th, is a
project that suffers many of the ills that plague mass appeal works. Mileage
will vary by entire degrees here. For better or worse, Mac and Cheese 3 is a testament to the shift in rap culture toward
more niche work.
For all of that, the mixtape itself straddles the fence; it
isn’t terrific or terrible.
The most laudable aspect...

rapper Busta Rhymes has always been known for the speed and intricacy of his
raps. Since his start with Leaders of the New School in ’89, Busta has released sixteen studio albums, with a
staggering third of those going platinum. Frankly, Busta is a force to be reckoned with
in the world of hip hop. His latest project, Year of the Dragon, cannot be compared to When...

I just have to say that I have never really understood the hype about Rick Ross, but the hype was at an all time high after he dropped “Rich Forever.” “If he gives this to us on a mixtape, imagine 'God Forgives, I Don't'?!!?” But, it is true that “Rich Forever” was some huge ish. I mean, first of all, when it dropped at 3:05 pm, shit was crashing on the internet because of all the...

Kanye West has certainly gathered a nice squad of lyricists over at G.O.O.D. Music. None fit in better than CyHi The Prynce. Following the release of his fellow G.O.O.D. Music compadre Pusha T's Wrath of Cocaine mixtape, the Atlanta rapper drops Ivy League: Kick Back, which is a follow up to his widely popular Ivy League Club mixtape that was released to great fanfare in 2012.
The Kick Back tour...
Tyler, the Creator's previous two solo projects were critically-acclaimed pieces of work. The success of Bastard and Goblin allowed him to garner the crazed fan base that follow his every move, but with Wolf, the Los Angeles native has moved on to something new. Instead of the usual six-minute intro track where he discusses his angst-filled life with his shrink and...
Two years ago, Jay-Z and Kanye West joined forces and crowned themselves the kings of rap. After an extensive worldwide Watch The Throne tour, the two went back to their separate careers to work on solo projects. Although they both welcomed a brand new baby in the last year and a half, they couldn’t be in more different places musically. While Kanye has declared himself god and delved into even...

After months of anticipation, Chief Keef finally released Bang Pt. 2 on his 18th birthday, August 15th. Bang Pt. 2 is Sosa’s first project following the release of his major-label debut album Finally Rich, and much has happened since that time. The GBE rapper spent 60 days in a juvenile detention center for violating a gun probation, and also signed with Gucci Mane to become the newest...

Earlier this year, hip-hop bible XXL Magazine featured rappers A$AP Rocky and French Montana on its cover declaring New York rap is back. While the focus of the game has shifted to other parts of the country in the past several years or so, there are some native New York emcees that are doing their part to rep their city. Harlem’s own A$AP Mob, led by the somewhat eccentric A$AP Rocky, have...
