Eric Bellinger has shared a new EP in celebration of his birthday.
Kendrick Lamar Will Never Release The Song From His Colbert Performance Mar 26, 2015 at 06:23pm 36,446 Views
Back in December, when we knew very little about Kendrick Lamar's follow-up to good kid, m.A.A.d city, his performance on the series finale of the Colbert Report seemed like a huge hint. While we assumed that the "untitled" song was a sure bet to land on the LP, when To Pimp A Butterfly finally arrived, it was strangely nowhere to be found.
Punchlines are one of the most effective tools in hip-hop, and throughout his career, Ludacris has proved himself a master of them. While perfectly capable of turning his lyrics to more serious subjects (peep "Runaway" for that), Luda has become known for his ability to perfectly set up a joke with a preceding line and then knock it down with one witty bar.
Dr. Dre Wants To "Inspire" People With "Straight Outta Compton" Biopic Mar 26, 2015 at 03:58pm 7,620 Views
Despite being out of the music game for some time, Dr. Dre's got quite a bit on his plate.
Back in January the line-up for Coachella was revealed, with a few names catching our eye, namely, Drake and The Weeknd. The former collaborators and Canadians were set to play two different days, with The Weeknd's name listed underneath headliner Jack White, and Drake a headliner in his own right.
We're very excited today to debut our first-ever digital cover story, with Mr. Wonderful himself, Action Bronson.
Before he was a Grammy-nominated, OVO-signed sensation, iLoveMakonnen was grinding on the mixtape circuit, never sacrificing his weirdness for power plays. Starting in 2012, his Drink More Water series has been a consistent source of otherworldly jams, and with volume five arriving at the end of the month, we're looking back at highlights from the first four.
A$AP Rocky's sophomore title acronym, A.L.L.A., was deciphered yesterday thanks to a video of Rocky spitting a verse from an album cut for GQ.
Ducko McFli's stock is quickly rising in this rap game, thanks to a co-sign from Mike WiLL Made It and a few choice placements, namely on Drake records. The producer recently put out his first single via Ear Drummers, the ambitious "I'm Serious" featuring Problem, Snootie Wild and Reese. We say "ambitious" because of the maniacal laughter that's sampled on the hard-hitting record.
This Monday, Action Bronson dropped his madcap, adventurous debut album Mr. Wonderful. Although it was a little less sample-driven than his prior mixtapes, its live instrumentation was still often based around skeletons of existing songs taken from far-flung genres, as is Bam Bam's habit.
T-Pain's New Mixtape Will Feature Unheard Aaliyah Vocals [Update: Full Tracklist Revealed] Mar 25, 2015 at 09:58pm 5,330 Views
The newly released "Wait a Minute" with OG Maco has us hyped for T-Pain's The Iron Way. After performing a 42 song set at SXSW, he sat down with VIBE and revealed the other features on his upcoming mixtape. Aside from Maco, The Iron Way will feature Bun B, Big K.R.I.T., and, most surprisingly, Aaliyah.
Action Bronson’s new album is a bid to be considered the funniest man in hip hop. A week after Kendrick Lamar’s album has the entire culture debating race, politics, and society, Mr. Wonderful reminds us that sometimes rap can also be about wicked-funny punch lines and ridiculous one-liners as much as it can attempt to impact culture itself.
Rihanna's new album, which has been given the working title R8, has been rumored to be dropping as a surprise release since last year. Today we got our first clue as to when it may be coming, and it looks like it COULD be tomorrow.Rih captioned a photo (which may or may not be the album cover) with three hastags: "#March26,” “#R8,” and “#BBHMM”.
As is obvious from the multiple "who??" comments that still somehow show up on pretty much everything we post about Tink, many of you still need to get familiar with one of hip-hop's most talented young stars.
Action Bronson's Mr. Wonderful was much heavier on the promo side than its same-day release partner I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside, but despite that, the two are neck-in-neck when it comes to sales.
Dame Dash has the twittersphere on a roll right now, thanks to the #TweetLikeDameDash hashtag. It all stemmed from Dame's interview with The Breakfast Club, where he went on this nonsensical tirade about how real men don't have bosses. It came with a whole bunch of other caveats for all the #RealMen out there. Take note, men: Real men don't talk about other men.
Recently a report circulated that Dame Dash and Kanye West were interested in purchasing Karmaloop (although it appears they are about to go bankrupt, so now might not be the best time). The remark was made by Dame in an off-hand way during an interview, but was quickly distributed throughout the internet.
Drake's "If You're Reading This It's Too Late" Reportedly Set For A Physical Release Next Month Mar 25, 2015 at 03:08pm 28,298 Views
As much as Drake insists on calling If You're Reading This It's Too Late a mixtape, it's release has been anything but.
The relationship between Christina Milian and Lil Wayne remains mysterious. Is it strictly business, with Weezy F helping give Milian a much-needed publicity and/or career boost, or is it a matter of two Young Money artists in lurve?
Jay Z is making moves in the streaming game, acquiring Aspiro, a company which hosted two European music streaming companies-- TIDAL and WiMP --for a cool $56 million earlier this year. He's no ready to relaunch the sites, but he's decided to turn them into one entity, known simply as TIDAL.
With every XXL Freshman Class, there's bound to be MCs included who will eventually flop-- that's just the nature of trying to predict who will break out in the sea of up-and-coming rappers. Since the magazine began the now-prestigious list back in 2008, we've seen several former Freshmen fall off, so we've selected ten that we feel didn't live up to their potential.
This morning we got a little teaser verse from A$AP Rocky's highly anticipated sophomore effort, A.L.L.A. For a while we simply knew the album title by its acronym, but along with that acapella verse from GQ, we get the complete album title: At.Long.Last.A$AP.
Earl Sweatshirt's Darkest Lyrics On "I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside" Mar 25, 2015 at 11:40am 10,726 Views
When Earl Sweatshirt was just 15, he was rapping about raping nuns and slitting wrists, so it's hard to imagine his lyrics getting any more demented than that. But on his new album, I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside, they do, albeit in a more subtle, depressing way.
As a former gourmet chef of Albanian and Jewish descent who raps over a Tracy Chapman guitar riff at most of his shows, Action Bronson has always been a unique presence in hip-hop. Never has this been more pronounced, though, than at last week’s South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.
Last year Lollapalooza had a headliner that would many most hip-hop fans weak at the knees, with both OutKast and Eminem on the bill. This year they do a 180, with absolutely no hip-hop headliner, although there are rap artists scattered throughout the three-day festival.
