Weekly review of the Hip-Hop and R&B sales/charts.
SKEE Live on HotNewHipHop: Nipsey Hussle, Paris Hilton & Dom Kennedy Oct 7, 2013 at 02:10pm 5,854 Views
HNHH is now covering SKEE Live as a weekly series. We're bringing you behind-the-scenes footage and interviews from all the guests. Here's a little preview of what's to come, as well as our chat last week with Paris Hilton. Interviews from Nipsey Hussle and Dom Kennedy will be up on HNHH YouTube shortly. Don't forget to subscribe here!
This past week we saw an influx of themed content, surrounding Valentine's Day and the NBA All-Star Weekend. Rappers just love dropping material simultaneously, thus the site was busy with mixtapes and songs centered around either subject, resulting in some music getting pushed aside. Here are five tracks that may have been neglected in the V-Day and All-Star frenzy that occupied last week.
On Charts Don't Lie this week we familiar faces, along with one that may seem completely random: Flo Rida. We'll get to that one in a minute. As for the regulars, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis see their best chart peak this week since they debuted at #2, with a leap from #16 to #4.
With the holidays in full swing, shopping and spending is at an annual high, and it’s semi-ironic that a Jesus titled album heads up our charts this week. The numbers are not massive, and we will have to keep an eye on sales in the coming weeks, closer to actual Christmas, and right after when people are using the gift cards that gift givers are so fond of giving. We
This week's Underrated Audio is mainly composed of artists who are on the rise, from Toronto rapper Rich Kidd, to the Def Jam signee, August Alsina. Although most of these artists have yet to really establish themselves in the game (we can gloss over Cory Gunz, who also appears in UA this week), they delivered quality tracks this past week which we’d like to shine some more light on.
This week we see Wiz Khalifa’s O.N.I.F.C. debut at #2, just as his last album, Rolling Papers did. However, the numbers don’t exactly add up-- O.N.I.F.C. sold less than Rolling Papers. While Rolling Papers may have been considered a commercial success, according to die-hard TGOD fans, it was far cry from what they knew and loved about Wiz. O.N.I.F.C.
The first week of September is upon us, but the new music isn't slowing down just 'cause summer is. We had a ton of mixtapes drop this past week, and still more to come. Nonetheless, not all new music is good music!! But here is some shit that is actually new AND good. Crazy shiet. Blu- Rap Dope I don't listen to Blu very often, and I keep telling myself I'm going to download
This week we were extremely impressed by the numbers that Justin Timberlake pulled with his new album, The 20/20 Experience. Within the hip-hop/r’n’b-sphere, we haven’t seen a chart topper sell the amount JT sold in a while. The artist pulled in 980k, which funnily enough takes away a record from Lil Wayne, who happens to
Last week we contemplated the low sales for Ace Hood's Trials & Tribulations album. This week, we see a severe drop for Ace's album, at the same time we get a new entry with similarly low sales, Rich Gang. We all know those Young Money fans go hard for their rappers, however, it appears they didn't come out to purchase Birdman's YMCMB compilation (of sorts), Rich Gang.
Another week, another great showing from R&B artists on the sales charts. Drake’s boy and fellow Toronto artist The Weeknd managed to nab the top spot here this week, and he did it all with only dropping three original tracks. Look for Nicki Minaj to follow suit when her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded - The Re Up drops,
This week on Charts Don't Lie some of the less consistent rappers have fallen off, while others prove they're on the charts for the long-term. We already knew Justin Timberlake would be here awhile, after he went platinum in very little time following his album's debut.
Word up HNHH viewers, the Grammys were on last night, and even if you missed it, you can catch all the relevant performances here.
I don't got much to say, but since this is underrated type ish, you guys should all peep DJ Dahi's new instrumental mixtape, Toys 2.0. Dope for rappers, and the average listener alike, cop it here. And on an equally random note, I would really like some new Lloyd Banks in my life so I really hope he finishes those two mixtapes he's working on, like, yesterday.Sir Michael
This week our one new entry belongs to Mariah Carey, who recently released her umpteeth album, Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse. While the sales show she doesn't quite have that star power she once did, it's still a respectable debut of #3.
This week everyone's favorite dope boy Pusha T finally made his Charts debut, with My Name Is My Name. The album, which has been praised highly by most, managed a #4 debut, selling on the lower-end of the projected amount, with 75k. While it's solid numbers for a rapper who's been in the underground for most of his career, what does it say about those supporting 'real rap'?
The best Summer League player in the world, Andre Drummond, went to a trampoline play area and worked on his Slam Ball skills of dunking while using a trampoline. He posted several vids, including one of him imitating a classic Tracy McGrady two hand reverse – popularized in the 2000 Dunk Contest. In Orlando Summer League, Dre dominated the Miami Heat and threw down some vicious dunks, bu
HNHH Does BET Green Carpet With Snoop Dogg, Nelly, Yo Gotti, Bone Thugs & More (Part 1) Oct 2, 2013 at 09:32am 6,652 Views
HNHH hit up the BET Hip Hop Awards this Sunday, and we got our very own Broady The Joker to tear up the Green Carpet for some interviews. We talked to Nelly about his new album, asked Snoop about getting into stand-up, as well as hanging out with Cash Out, Tiara Thomas, Yo Gotti, August Alsina, Lola Monroe and more!
Business moves quick, and that's no exception for the rap world. From the hottest new signings, to movie deals, to album pushbacks, the industry is constantly in motion. It can be hard to keep up with at times, so we've consolidated all of the must-hear information from the past month, all in one place.
Almost three years after finding a cancerous tumor on his parotid gland Adam Yauch (MCA) acquiesced to the illness on May 4th, 2012. Since then fans, friends, and fellow artists have mourned Adam’s life and work through their words and actions. In truth there is much to mourn, and much to remember.
Underrated Audio aims to provide you with some dope looks from the last seven days, that flew under most peoples' radars. While they may have received front-page placement on HNHH, they didn't get as many views as they deserve, so we shine a little more light on them right here.
This week all eyes are Kanye West, J. Cole and Mac Miller. But mainly Kanye West. The three rappers are releasing their respective projects two days from now (Tuesday, June 18th) and we will be watching the sales and the charts to see where each artist lands.
Talking To King Los With Producers J. Oliver & Flight Sch. On "Becoming King" Mar 27, 2013 at 11:39am 4,841 Views
King Los has released mixtape after mixtape, documenting his journey to 'Becoming King,' as he calls it, and increasing his fan-base with the release of each project.
Rappers are storytellers of the modern age. The media often misunderstands these narrators of society, but future generations will recognize them as windows into the past. Truly talented rappers have the ability to connect with people through their words, which may or may not be written down prior to the stage of recording.
