HNHH's "Underrated Audio" puts you on not-too-mainstream music you might have missed from the past week.
Running The Jewels & The Game: An Argument For Killer Mike As The Top MC Of The Past Three Years Jan 15, 2015 at 04:18pm 12,337 Views
Ask most Hip-Hop fans who’s been running the rap game the past three years, and the answers would mostly be the same; Kendrick Lamar…Drake…maybe some J. Cole. Even with somewhat of an agreement, there’s no science to this. There’s no exact formula of determining who is on top. Is it record sales?
Underrated Audio is back on our mission to supply you with exciting new music you may have missed upon initial browsing, from artists who haven't quite broken the mainstream. The talent is there, the quality uncut.
"In my entire career in the music industry, I have never found anything from a demo tape or a CD. When Jimmy played [Eminem’s demo], I said, 'Find him. Now.'” -Dr. Dre
We saw two notable debuts on this week's charts, and they tell very different stories. The first comes from underground hero, Tech N9ne, who managed to have his biggest sales week ever, coming in at number 4. Meanwhile, Ciara, who has both a hit and major label backing, only earned a number 17 debut.
This week marks the end of an era, with Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again" unseating the seemingly invincible "Uptown Funk". The success of Khalifa's record was seen in album sales as well with Furious 7 moving up to the top spot on the Billboard 200. This week saw no big debuts, and we watched Wale and Ludacris fall 10-plus spots following their opening weeks last cycle.
This past week we didn't see too many dope tunes drop, the internet was taken over by that whole Drake and Chris Brown fight. However, these three songs deserve a spot on your iPod. The Alchemist- Flight Confirmation Feat. ScHoolboy Q & Danny Brown This was the song I was looking forward
The month of April is already wrapping up, even though it seems like it just arrived. We celebrated 4/20 over the weekend, which saw an influx of weed-smoking songs on the site, as expected. Nonetheless, we like think that you can make every day a 4/20, especially when you have the right music. This week UA has four perfect tracks to do so.
It was a good week for Underrated Audio. See below for the awesome tracks from last week that didn't get played as much as they should.Ab-Soul- SOPA Feat. ScHoolboy Q With Kendrick Lamar blowing up and ScHoolboy Q next up, Ab-Soul is oft over-looked in the TDE camp (along with Jay Rock). Anyways, I think that will soon change when he
This week's Underrated Audio gathers four tracks of varying kinds for your listening pleasure. Both Kevin Gates and Ace Hood dropped albums this past week, and while Ace Hood's Trials & Tribulations was undoubtedly made for the mainstream, Kevin Gates' project took a somewhat experimental approach to rap.
Phil Ade is the next rapper up out of the DMV area. The rapper has consistently brought rhymes and wordplay with a mix of sometimes conscious rap and sometimes ignorant rap. It's a good combination which has led to a devout following of Phil Ade fans, who expect more and more from the rapper after each mixtape. Rightly so.
This week there's was some difficulty in deciding what to feature on Underrated Audio, and it wasn't because there was an excess of tracks to choose from, but sadly, the opposite. Nonetheless, we've come through, with five cuts from last week that were not given all their deserved play time.
This week was a good one for hip-hop. The BET Hip-Hop Awards delivered cyphers from plenty of rappers, and Curren$y hopped on a track with his former YMCMB bosses, Lil Wayne and Birdman, which was pretty cool. DJ Khaled also leaked a bajillion tracks off Suffering From Success (well, at least four).
The past week has brought a bunch of new mixtapes, including personal favorites from Curren$y and CyHi. I'm glad to see Spitta back on his rapping shit and choosing quality beats once again. And although Pusha T's latest effort kind of fell short for me, it will nonetheless still get plays.
This week on the charts we see a new entry with Top Dawg's lady SZA, who made a strong debut considering it's her first release on the label/first release for sale. Similar to Isaiah Rashad's Cilvia Demo, which debuted at #40, SZA's Z debuted at #39 by moving 7,000 units.
The first time we heard Nicki Minaj was on “Monster,” a track that includes heavyweights Jay-Z, Rick Ross and Kanye, it was her ferocious verse that stood out the most. It automatically exhibited her potential to be this generation's dopest female M.C.
This week as everyone is all-consumed by Kendrick Lamar's debut album good kid, m.A.A.d city, if you ever wanna step back from the hype surrounding it and put on something a little different I've got you covered. But good kid, m.A.A.d city is also a wise decision. DEEzo- Deck Feat. Dizzy Wright Many people probably only clicked this
This past week the Drake frenzy surrounding Nothing Was The Same came to a peak when the actual first week sales were released. The rapper's album had the best opening week of this year second to Justin Timberlake's come back effort-- he even topped Jay Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail first week sales.
John Wall's Teammate Doesn't Want To See Him "Butt Naked" In Magazine Jul 14, 2013 at 05:14pm 21 Views
John Wall and Kenneth Faried shed their uniforms for ESPN Magazine’s “The Body” issue as both players posed for ‘tastefully’ nude photos. The issue is supposed to help bring awareness to the body, and make people feel more comfortable with who they are. One person who was uncomfortable with Wall’s poses was teammate Martell Webster. When asked by a member of the Washington Post
"Control": Just What Hip Hop Needed? Weigh In On Kendrick Lamar's Verse Aug 14, 2013 at 11:39am 183 Views
If we've learned anything from Kendrick Lamar's verse on Big Sean's song "Control", it's that there seems to be something lacking in today's Hip Hop genre. This is evidenced by the reaction of fans, the industry, social media and artists themselves.
Underrated Audio aims to provide you with some dope looks from the last seven days, that flew under most peoples' radars. While they may have received front-page placement on HNHH, they didn't get as many views as they deserve, so we shine a little more light on them right here.
Just as we mentioned last week, it seems we now have some chart-toppers that are here to stay, at least for the time being. We've seen the first four artists below consistently on Charts Don't Lie since their respective albums dropped. All are steadily selling, and if they do decrease in sales, it isn't by a vast amount.
This week the charts remained relatively calm, with no hip-hop new-comers to speak of yet. However, Ty Dolla $ign recently dropped his new Beach House EP, so we'll have to see how well that does sales-wise next week.
With Christmas arriving tomorrow, we decided it was only appropriate to make our recent interview with Kid Ink Christmas-themed. Ink will no doubt be busy this holiday prepping the release of his debut album My Own Lane for the New Year (January 7th, to be exact), but nonetheless, even rappers have time to celebrate Christmas.
It doesn't even really need to be said at this point, but this past week was dominated by Kendrick Lamar and the many "Control" responses that followed. It seems every rapper feels some type of way about some line in K. Dot's verse, even if they weren't directly called out.
