RIAA Now Includes Audio & Video Song Streams In Gold & Platinum Certification May 9, 2013 at 11:11am 43 Views
As the music industry continues to adjust to the age of the Internet, The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has announced a new change in their certification of Gold and Platinum awards.
Recently, we featured Funk Volume's Dizzy Wright, and his stand-out track "Maintain" on Track Breakdown, and today we return to the Funk Volume crew, but this time to get some more knowledge about Jarren Benton's single "Razor Blades & Steak Knives," produced by Kato.
This week continues to be a good one on the hip-hop front. Today alone saw new projects from Logic and Harry Fraud, yesterday we got August Alsina's mixtape, while last week we got projects from J. Cole, Chance The Rapper, and the list goes on.
The new entries keep coming in on Charts Don't Lie. Recent weeks have seen quite a few releases that are within the hip-hop realm, as is often the case, because rappers like to release projects on the same day. This week, however, the new-comers to the charts don't come in as strong as you might think. Pop-friendly rapper Will.i.am moved under 30k for opening week with his solo album #willpower.
Live Video Stream: Summer Jam XX Line-Up Announcement [Update: Chris Brown, Wu-Tang, Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chainz & More] May 2, 2013 at 04:42pm 3,887 Views
Today Hot 97 is announcing the line-up for their upcoming annual Summer Jam event. Check out the live stream announcement below to find out which artists have been tapped for the main stage. We've already heard who will be on the Festival Village Stage (which, ahem, is sponsored by us!) -- Joey Bada$$, A$AP Ferg, Action Bronson, Troy Ave, Smoke DZA, and Kid Ink.
This week there's was some difficulty in deciding what to feature on Underrated Audio, and it wasn't because there was an excess of tracks to choose from, but sadly, the opposite. Nonetheless, we've come through, with five cuts from last week that were not given all their deserved play time.
This week our newest entry in Charts Don't Lie is the former G.O.O.D. Music representer, Kid Cudi. The rapper announced his departure from G.O.O.D. Music shortly before the release of INDICUD, to the shock of most. Although Cudder assured fans it was an amicable split, it nonetheless gets us wondering as to the root cause.
Tech N9ne has been doing music since the '90s, and along the way he's picked up a fan or two (or a lot more). However, the rapper still isn't satisified, and he continues to grind to reach those people who have yet to call themselves Tech N9ne fans.
The month of April is already wrapping up, even though it seems like it just arrived. We celebrated 4/20 over the weekend, which saw an influx of weed-smoking songs on the site, as expected. Nonetheless, we like think that you can make every day a 4/20, especially when you have the right music. This week UA has four perfect tracks to do so.
This week we see Tyga make an entry onto the charts, while Tyler, the Creator, whose album dropped last week, fell quite a bit from his impressive #3 debut. Tyga's Hotel California is definitely a venture into the more typical sound that has defined Tyler's career, with plenty of DJ Mustard-esque beats and the accompanying flow.
This week's Underrated Audio is mainly composed of artists who are on the rise, from Toronto rapper Rich Kidd, to the Def Jam signee, August Alsina. Although most of these artists have yet to really establish themselves in the game (we can gloss over Cory Gunz, who also appears in UA this week), they delivered quality tracks this past week which we’d like to shine some more light on.
This week we see a new entry in Chart's Dont Lie, with Tyler, the Creator's WOLF having dropped on April 2nd. The rapper is definitely expanding his fanbase, with this album impressively debuting at #3 on the Billboard 200. Tyler has been known for extreme and controversial lyrics, which may have made him less accessible to the general public in the past.
Dizzy Wright was recently crowned a 2013 XXL Freshmen (by the people's vote, nonetheless), which is sure to make his stock in the rap game rise.
This week's unintentional theme for Underrated Audio seems to be dark and trippy tracks-- from Jarren Benton spitting craziness, Don Trip giving us mellowed out and dark bars, and the Flatbush Zombies delivering drug-addled rhymes, all bases were covered in either department.
This week we saw Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience break another record, after first topping Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV in first week sales, it became the first record in 2013 to crack one million sales, going platinum just two weeks after it dropped.
The first week of April has arrived, and along with it came a few jams from some of the usual suspects: King Chip, Action Bronson, Young Roddy and Travi$ Scott. These four are no strangers to Underrated Audio, but soon one or two of them may get too big for the UA circuit and move on up to Top Tracks of the Week.
This week we were extremely impressed by the numbers that Justin Timberlake pulled with his new album, The 20/20 Experience. Within the hip-hop/r’n’b-sphere, we haven’t seen a chart topper sell the amount JT sold in a while. The artist pulled in 980k, which funnily enough takes away a record from Lil Wayne, who happens to
Talking To King Los With Producers J. Oliver & Flight Sch. On "Becoming King" Mar 27, 2013 at 11:39am 64 Views
King Los has released mixtape after mixtape, documenting his journey to 'Becoming King,' as he calls it, and increasing his fan-base with the release of each project.
Well, today is the day that Lil Wayne's album I Am Not A Human Being II officially dropped. Although we're positive it will sell given Weezy's huge fanbase, we're not so sure about the content there within. If you're not in a Wayne mood today, we've got five new tracks from the past week that we're tryna show a little more love too, so give them a listen.
This week we await the official numbers for Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience, which is projected to sell huge amounts (750-800k), and will no doubt take over Charts Don’t Lie for a period of time. Next week will also have Lil Wayne’s I Am Not A Human Being II dropping, which is also sure to make a splash on the charts in the coming week. This week however, we see hardly any
As we near the end of March we've been getting more good-ass music coming in each and every week. This past week we saw the underground circuit drop several dope tracks (from King Chip to the Flatbush Zombies), and we've rounded the best five cuts for you to check out here.
As the past few months have been slow all-around when it comes to music, we are not seeing many, if any, new hip-hop entries on the charts. However this shortage of music is coming to a close; the past week or two have seen many big songs drop, and a mixtape or three.
Tha Joker has been steadily grinding alongside producer, Big Fruit, for some time now. The two southerners first linked up in 2006, when Joker joined Big Fruit's independent label. Although the two have since parted ways label-wise, they have remained frequent collaborators.
It seems like the lack-of-music we we're talking about on last week's Underrated Audio has finally come to an end. This past week we've seen huge songs drop from Drake, Fabolous, A$AP Rocky, Lupe Fiasco and Ace Hood, just to name a few. You'll see some of those songs topped our Top 100 and were featured on Top Tracks of the Week, but it wasn't only the big names dropping music this past week.
