We take a look at some iconic magazine covers.
LeBron took to instagram to show off his Drake inspired sweatshirt, but also gave us a glimpse of an unreleased "Volt Dunkman" Nike LeBron 9 Elite. Whether this was done intentionally or not, the sneaker community is marveling over the electric kicks. The sneakers were limited to samples and "friends and family" pairs, which add to their lure and exclusivity.
We've officially wrapped up a big year for the genre we all love-- new albums from Jay Z, Kanye West, Pusha T, Mac Miller, Drake, Juicy J (and the list goes on), only made 2013 that much sweeter. Mix in a new-found competition brought on by, you guessed it, "Control," and all the free mixtapes we've received in 2013, and this past year was definitely a good one.
With the holiday season winding down, we're still seeing the affect it had on the charts and the sales. It seems like almost everyone on today's Charts round-up had an increase in sales and a rise up the Billboard 200 in the past seven days except for B.o.B.
New Years Eve celebrations went down just a few days ago, so this weekend you may still be recovering from all your mid-week partying. While you do that, you can take a look at the four chill cuts sitting in Underrated Audio this week. No records too turned up this weekend. From a little-known Arkansas rap group to Sean Price, here are four pieces of audio we're giving a second look.
The White/Infrared Air Jordan 6 is scheduled to drop on February 15th. That doesn't apply to Macklemore though. The avid sneakerhead was seen chilling at the airport rocking the always clean Infrared 6s. One of the most anticipated releases of this young year, so get prepared for a bevy of celebrities displaying their early pick-up.
Keeping Gucci Mane out of the headlines is no easy task. Once again he’s back, although this time with the release of his digital album The State Vs. Radric Davis II: The Caged Bird Sings. While the rapper is surrounded by mounting legal problems, he's nonetheless found the time to keep his fans fed with this Christmas day release.
The Air Jordan 4 "Chicago Blackhawks" are a private order done by none other than Mache. As you can tell, the celebratory sneakers uses the "Toro" Air Jordan 4 as the base.
In November, Atlanta rapper Trinidad James caused a firestorm with comments he made while performing in Brooklyn, New York City. After multiple rappers (most notably Maino) called him out for stating that ATL rappers run NYC musically, the Def Jam signee finally admitted he chose the wrong venue.
As we continue to recover from New Year's Eve festivities, memories from the evening are slowly coming back to us.
Red October, gamma blue, elephant print, camo print; you get the idea. 2013 was filled with a ton of polarizing colorways and designs that even had the celebrities itching to get a pair.
We at HotNewHipHop are quite aware of our user community, which is very unique in and of itself. If you're on HNHH every day, you get used to seeing certain users all up in the comments, blasting their opinion or inciting arguments.
This feature highlights a hand-picked selection of some of the bigger tracks of the week. We have chosen a few of the tracks that landed within our top 25 most played, focusing on those that stood out, and left room for discussion.
2013 has been a pretty crazy year for albums. We saw many rappers trying to create the biggest "event" around their projects-- whether it be Jay Z's Samsung rollout, Kanye West's projections, Eminem's SuperBowl announcement, or Drake's omni-presence of new tracks.
The Air Jordan 3 "Katrina" will reportedly hit retailers on March 8th, 2014. This colorway was originally auctioned off on EBay to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The Adidas D Rose 4.5 has officially been unveiled in a wide variety of colorways. The shoes are scheduled to release in 3 of these colorways on January 30th, for $130.
Mixtapes are a staple within the hip-hop genre, and as the genre continues to evolve with the advances of technology (aka the internet), so are mixtapes. Rappers are constantly trying to outdo each other in the mixtape game, whether it be creating completely original projects, unique concepts or joint efforts, and roll-outs to intrigue fans.
2013 was a great year for hip-hop fans. Pusha T finally released his long-awaited debut album My Name Is My Name and did not disappoint his fans. Kanye West christened himself a deity with Yeezus. J. Cole went back to his roots with his sophomore album Born Sinner and proved that Jay Z and Roc Nation were right in signing him.
In case you didn't get enough of Kevin Hart on nearly every commercial the past week, here he is again. The funny man was out and about in LA after watching the Heat take on the Lakers on Christmas day. The Nike Air Yeezy 1 was Hart's shoe of choice, and he also wore a jacket that had to be a size XXS.
The past week brought Christmas, which undoubtedly brought sales in all departments, music or otherwise. However not all hip-hop artists were lucky enough to benefit from this Christmas season. Although B.o.B released his album Underground Luxury just in time to enjoy some holiday giving, his album fell completely flat, managing to debut at #22 this week on the Billboard 200, moving only 35k.
For all the Taxis, Gamma Blue 11s, and Laneys comes a ton of atrocious, volatile kicks that make us wonder how they ever made it to retail. Each person has their own preferences, but there are always a bunch of black sheep that stand out from the crowd as being downright ugly. Thats why we're here today; to expose the most barbaric, rotten, and lousy kicks of 2013.
As the Internet expands and social media continues to bring us all closer together, more and more artists are able to attain widespread exposure, for better or worse.
Although it is the holidays, rappers never stop putting in work. Rappers love to release shit on holidays specifically, and this year was no different. Quite a few artists came through with big records in the spirit of Xmas, but there were also some smaller gems which we're shining light on in Underrated Audio. Have a look through to see what you may have missed in the past seven days.
The all black, carbon fiber Nike Air Flightposite looks to be making a return in 2014. The sleek, all black look is a nice change of pace from the crazy and vibrant colorways we've previously seen getting retro'd.
Another stellar year for hip-hop. As the digital market continued to flourish, singles did accordingly. From Chicago trap to New York boom-bap to Houston trill, it’s all here. Not only were the year’s top singles diverse, but their marketing tactics were unique as well (take Kanye’s “New Slaves”, for example).
