There has been a lot of discourse about the Grammy upset, where Macklemore swept up in the Rap categories in favor of Kendrick Lamar's heralded album. But what does this mean in the larger picture? Does it even matter or does it matter all too much?
The Grammys had a positive effect in terms of album sales, as those nominated and those who won both received a boost in the past seven days. Despite Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city not taking home a Grammy, the rapper still saw a spike in his sales and an almost twenty-spot jump up the charts.
As we do every week, we're bringing you some dope records that dropped in the last seven days, each of which deserve more views. This week was pretty busy in terms of major single releases, we saw the return of Luda with "Party Girls," we saw the return of Big Sean with his "1st Quarter" freestyle and we even got some free music from J.
The Air Jordan 1 "Carbon Fiber" comes to us by way of JBF Customs. The unique take on the classic Air Jordan 1 silhouette features carbon fiber paneling at the mid panel and toe box. Patent leather branding and suede round out the black/red/white Air Jordan 1. What's the word; Cop or Not?
Pharrell's large hat at the Grammys got just about everyone talking, and has become a famous entity in and of itself. However many people have figured out by now that the hat was actually paying homage to the 1982 music video from Malcolm McLaren and the World's Famous Supreme Team, "Buffalo Gals".
2013 was dominated by emerging producers. Mike WiLL Made It and DJ Mustard, who seemed like newcomers at the top of the year, ended things off with major label artist deals, hits with some of the biggest artists in the game.
LeBron James and Kevin Durant went head to head last night on the court, and both busted out new colorways of their signature sneakers.
Isaiah Rashad’s debut EP, Cilvia Demo, is very easily among the most captivating mainstream debut projects from a new artist since the likes of J. Cole, Drake or even label mate Kendrick Lamar.
Pierre the Pelican, mascot of the New Orleans Pelicans, has been catching a ton of heat for being too scary. It's understandable that organizations want their mascots to be fan friendly and compatible with kids, but at the same time this isn't a beauty pageant.
When hip-hop began, samples were all that DJs and producers had to construct instrumental tracks with. They'd dig through crates of vinyl trying to find isolated drum breaks, melodies or vocals that they could repurpose for use in hip-hop music. Today, sampling has become less common, but a choice sample can still push a track from lukewarm to hot faster than you can say "uh huh honey."
Chaining days have always been a great ritual in hip-hop. So much so, that Kanye West made it the grande finale of his music video for "Through The Wire", his first major single. Last night bossman Jay Z of ROCNATION presented J. Cole with an original Roc-A-Fella chain. A sign of respect and gift for the 29th birthday of the rapper. Do you remember who else has a Roc-A-Fella chain?

While fans and media pundits continue to speculate about where forward Carmelo Anthony will play next season, a more informed source weighed in on the topic Sunday night. Industry Executive Steve Lobel Talks "Battle For Beats" Event With DJ Mustard Jan 28, 2014 at 11:51am 284 Views
Steve Lobel may not be a name your familiar with, but you're definitely familiar with the rappers he's helped over the past twenty years or more. While there are some industry execs the public has come to know by name, often times those doing the grunt work to promote their rappers aren't in the public spotlight.
The much anticipated Air Jordan 6 "Infrared 23" has already made its way into DJ Khaled's collection. The sweet looking, new colorway will hit all retailers on February 15th.
The Air Jordan 10 has been getting a lot of publicity lately with the Bobcats and Cool Grey/Infrared releases. Prior to that it was the "Chicago Bulls" and "Steel" colorways, among others.
With the recent release of his EP Beach House, Ty Dolla $ign has been on our radar for a while. The West Coast rapper, responsible for producing and writing the hit “Toot It And Boot It” for YG, has since made a name for himself through two successful mixtapes, Beach House and Beach House 2.
Many emcees (especially those in the limelight) display an appreciation for the finer things in life, and art is no exception. Although a less common source of inspiration, you will catch the occasional fine art reference in rap music, Jay Z's "Picasso Baby" being only the most recent example.
The Nike Kobe 9 Elite "Inspiration" will be releasing on March 1st. The "Inspiration" was unveiled yesterday along with two other colorways, but the Nike Kobe 9 "Inspiration" is the sneaker Kobe will be lacing up when he returns to action for the Lakers.
This week the charts remained relatively calm, with no hip-hop new-comers to speak of yet. However, Ty Dolla $ign recently dropped his new Beach House EP, so we'll have to see how well that does sales-wise next week.
Lady sneaker artist Fetti D'Biaski, aka the Sneaker Fairy, designed the all red Air Jordan 11 Low "Fierce." The custom Jordan 11 low features a totally red construction from outsole to upper. The only signs contrast from the fierce creation is the black inner lining and branding at the 3rd lace slot. What's the word; Cop or Not?

The Nike LeBron 11 "Graffiti" will hit retailers tomorrow, with a $200 price tag. Nike has previously used graffiti style graphics in limited release fashion, on the LeBron 4 and again on the LeBron 8 V2. These highly popular kicks were difficult to get your hands on, and you can expect the same headache if you're digging the Nike LeBron 11.
If the first Starvation mixtape proved to be a metaphor for Ace Hood’s unmitigated hunger for the level of super stardom usually reserved for rappers like his friend, Lil Wayne, then Starvation 3 makes Ace Hood sound as hungry as ever, except this time around, the production values are a lot better.
