Out of the blue (or at least it seems that way to us), Angie Martinez has announced her resignation from popular hip-hop radio station Hot 97. Angie has been a fixture at Hot 97 for more than a decade now, and thus she has become one of the main voices of the station, but more than just that, she's been dubbed the voice of NY. She's done a countless number of interviews for the station, including a rare interview with Tupac when she was just 22-years old.

The radio personality made the announcement via Instagram, where she wrote, "Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly....the listeners... for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show stay tuned.... Love, angie."

She didn't leave any details as to where she might be headed next, so we will keep you posted.

[UPDATE: Angie Reportedly Moving To Power 105.1]

Bossip has now reported that Angie Martinez is making her way to rival New York radio station Power 105.1, after leaving HOT 97 today. According to an "inside source", not only is Angie taking on a position at the station, but her contract has already been inked.

While the report has yet to be officially confirmed, it would certainly explain this tweet from Power 105 earlier today (for those not on mobile, the tweet quotes Angie's resignation letter, and adds a smiling emoji).

More updates to come as information arrives.

[UPDATE #2: Angie's Move To Power 105.1 Confirmed]

As speculated yesterday, word has come down from Power 105.1 that Angie Martinez has officially joined their team. Angie Martinez shocked most of us when she announced her resignation yesterday, but she's moving towards bigger and better things with Hot 97's rival station Power 105.1. In addition to hosting an afternoon show on Power 105, she'll be doing a midday slot for Miami's The Beat.

Martinez will reportedly start at Power 105.1 in July, from 2PM - 6PM. You can also expect an interview with The Breakfast Club's Charlmagne Tha God, DJ Envy, Angela Yee and Angie Martinez to air before she starts at the station.

Thea Mitchem, the Senior VP of Programming said in a press release, "Angie is the Queen of New York City radio – she is an incredible talent who continues to blaze trails and we are excited to have her join the team at Power 105.1 and The Beat in Miami. Angie has a long, successful history and we look forward to expanding her distinctive style and compelling content to more of our listeners."

Martinez added, "I want to thank, Thea Mitchem, Tom Poleman and Doc Wynter for this incredible opportunity. I’m excited to join Power 105.1 in New York and The Beat in Miami and expand my brand even further in the coming months."
