Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Adrian Younge first came up with the idea to work on a collaborative effort in 2013, cutting a demo with Cee-lo Green that same year. The track would later be used as a sample on Kendrick Lamar’s “untitled o6 | 06.30.2014” off his untitled unmastered offering of 2016.

Today, we finally get that track in full in the form of the first official single for the duo’s forthcoming Midnight Hour joint effort. Set to arrive on June 8th, the effort will feature appearances from Raphael Saadiq, Questlove, Marsha Ambrosius, Bilal, and Ladybug Mecca of the Digable Planets among others.

“It is a joy to create The Midnight Hour with our friends who were willing to take the musical journey with us to make something special that is a departure from the status quo," the pair told Rolling Stone. "The Midnight Hour represents the black idiom in regard to jazz, hip hop and cinematic soul for a new generation."

This will be Ali Shaheed Muhammad’s first project since the 2016 release of A Tribe Called Quest’s We got it from Here…Thank You 4 Your Service. Younge, however, dropped off the full-length Adrian Younge Presents: Voices of Gemma in March of this year.

Quotable Lyrics:

I'm supernatural
I am strange
Into whom or to what
Shall I change?
