Akini Blake, is a gifted and talented artist who hails his roots from the island of Trinidad & Tobago. He was raised by his grandmother who developed his love of music through church activities such as the choir and musical plays. At 7 years old, he started reading and writing music to the amazement of others around him. In the land known for its calypso flavors, Akini’s favorite musical style of R&B and pop was shaped by listening to such artists like Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, Teddy Riley, Luther Vandross and hip-hop legend, Tupac Shakur. A whole new world of music opened up to him as he migrated to the United States at the age of 14. Although it was difficult to leave the familiar sounds of ocean waves and steel drums, he adapted quickly to his surroundings in Brooklyn, NY. It was there he realized that he not only wanted to become the artist but the producer as well. In high school, he continued to participate in various musical clubs and school choirs always emerging as the lead singer. Being voted “most likely to get a record deal” sealed Akini’s fate as a rising new star of the 21st century. His appetite to do more, sing more and write more continued well after graduating so he decided to dive into music full time. By the age of 20, he stepped into the recording studio to create music that includes a mix of R&B, Pop and Neo Soul. When Akini was asked ‘why get into the music business?’ his reply was, “I want to be immortal. When you lay lyrics to music, you leave footprints in history.” Today, he is known as the young man with an old soul. You can find him crooning at the local hang-out spot in Brooklyn and throughout the Tri-State area.
