Is this the equivalent of “shots fired” for sneaker brands?

Nike’s created holiday “Air Max Day” is coming up tomorrow, March 26. The brand has a big reveal happening, and usually other brands would want to stay away from something that has the potential to dominate consumers’ wallets and the social media conversation. Adidas did exactly the opposite, moving multiple pairs of their surprisingly popular Adidas NMD sneaker to the exact same day.

In total, there are four Adidas NMD sneakers releasing on March 26. Two are mostly monochromatic, one in all white, and the other in predominantly black with a white sole. The other two are more vibrant, and are being called the “Geometric Camo” pack. As the name implies, there are large geometric shapes on the upper, offset by light and dark tones of the main color. The uppers of the “Geometric Pack” NMDs use a new mesh composite rather than the Primeknit material found on the monochromatic joints. One comes in red and the other in grey.

The NMD has come on very strong of late, with people lining up around the block for the core colorways. A big draw has been the NMD Boost outsole, rivaling the Ultra Boost outsole in comfort.
