A-Trak has announced the Goldie Awards, a beat battle and DJ competition that will be hosted by Dave East and judged by Diplo, Just Blaze, Mannie Fresh, Soulection's The Whooligan, Destructo, and more.
The Goldie Awards are the result of a partnership between Fool's Gold Records and Vice's THUMP and Noisey verticals. The judges will select six contestants based on videos posted to Instagram. The competition will take place on September 7th at NYC's Brooklyn Steel. The winner of the DJ competition will earn a performance spot at Fool's Gold Day Off, and the winner of the beat battle will get a song released on Fool's Gold Records.
"The Goldie Awards is kind of my baby now. This is a new project that I'm really excited about because it's even more close to my roots and foundation," A-Trak told Billboard. “It's a new battle that has two categories with a DJ battle and a beat battle. I earned my reputation in battling winning the DMC DJ Competition in '97 and winning a bunch of more titles until 2000 and those couple of years. I remember how that put my name on the map. That was when DJ'ing was more underground. It was sort of a light bulb moment that brought about the Goldie Awards.”
