Top Tracks: June 20 - June 26
Summer officially began this past week, and with it came a whole bevy of huge tracks, most of the biggest ones being collabs. There's something decidedly warm weather about the low-stakes posse cut, and that's mainly what our list consists of this week. All but two of these ten tracks didn't appear on last week's Top Ten, with a bunch of stuff falling off in the past week.
Meek Mill, The Game & More React To Murder Of Lor Scoota
Yet another inspiring young artist has been taken too soon. Yesterday (June 25) at around 7PM, 23-year-old Tyriece Watson, aka Lor Scoota, was fatally shot while driving in his hometown of Baltimore. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:30PM. Just minutes before the shooting, Scoota had been at Morgan State University, where he hosted a charity basketball event called "Touch the People: Pray for Peace In These Streets."
Top Tracks: June 13 - June 19
For ten out of the 24 weeks of 2016 we've experienced thus far, Drake has held the top spot in our Top 100 tracks list. Similar to the streak VIEWS is currently enjoying at the top of the Billboard charts, Drizzy's dominance in our metric of streaming-and-viewing success is pretty astounding, especially considering the mixed reaction his new album received.
Top Tracks: June 6 - June 12
Let's face it, as far as high-profile tracks go, there's no way this week (or any week really) could have lived up to the seven days that preceded it. Drake, Kanye, Jay Z, Justin Bieber, Gucci Mane, Travi$ Scott, and Pusha T all joined forces with some combination of one another to make for the craziest batch of tracks we've seen in such a short span this year.
Top Tracks: May 30 - June 5
Do you ever get the feeling that hip hop's current class of elites is more of a group of superfriends than ever before? Let's play six degrees of separation with this week's top ten tracks-- the most momentous batch in recent memory. At the top we've got DJ Khaled, who's collaborated with more of rap's A- B- and C-listers in his career than arguably anyone else, and who's accompanied by Drake.
Angela Simmons Pregnant With First Child
We imagine that Yo Gotti is far from the first rapper to be attracted to Angela Simmons, daughter of Rev Run, but late last year, he admitted his crush to the world on his smash hit "Down in the DM." The Memphis don won't be pleased to see this news, as Simmons showed off a suspicious protrusion on her belly yesterday, and the caption she wrote on Instagram confirmed that a child is currently growing inside of her. Shucks.
Yo Gotti Is Suing A Car Dealership For Crashing His Lamborghini
Yo Gotti’s so far successful 2016 has been marred by damages to his Lamborghini Aventador. While the luxury sports car was in the shop for repairs, an employee reportedly took the car out for a joyride one morning and crashed it into a tractor trailer. Now Yo Gotti is suing the dealership for damages.
Yo Gotti Adds Rae Sremmurd To 4th Annual Birthday Bash Concert
Yo Gotti has been putting on for Memphis for over two decades now, so it only makes sense for him to have his own hometown festival. Now in its 4th installment, Yo Gotti has announced the first opening act for his annual Birthday Bash concert, which will be none other than brotherly duo, Rae Sremmurd.
Who's Going On Tour? Spring/Summer Tour Round-Up
A lot of big artists are going on tour this spring and summer. You have mega-stars like Beyonce, Rihanna, and Drake. You have rising stars Anderson .Paak and Bas. You have established vets like Snoop Dogg, Maxwell, and Cam'Ron. And everybody in between. It looks like some legendary tours are going down towards the end of the calendar year. Gucci Mane & Friends tour is scheduled to go down when La Flare gets released from prison in September and Kanye West is also shooting to kick off his The Life of Pablo tour in September as well.
G-Eazy, Logic, YG, & Yo Gotti Announce "Endless Summer" Tour
The tour life never ends. G-Eazy wrapped up his "When It's Dark Out" tour with A$AP Ferg two months ago and Logic performed the final leg of his "The Incredible World Tour" last week in NYC. This summer, Young Gerald and Maryland's favorite son will hit the road together for the "Endless Summer" tour with YG and Yo Gotti in support. The 23-city tour kicks off June 28th in Dallas and snakes throug the contiguous United States for five weeks before wrapping up on August 5 in Hartford.
Stream K. Michelle's Album "More Issues Than Vogue"
K. Michelle's foray into reality television has broadened her fan base considerably. After spending the bulk of 2015 on tour, the Memphis singer spent the first couple months of 2016 rolling out a series of promising tracks from her third studio album More Issues Than Vogue. The album finally dropped last night and is now available for streaming on all platforms.
Young Dolph Goes Off On Yo Gotti; Calls Him A “Bitch Ass N*gga” On Instagram
Well it looks like there’s another chapter in the on-going beef between Memphis rappers Yo Gotti & Young Dolph. On Wednesday, Dolph decided to jump on Instagram and blast Yo Gotti, or “Ho Gotti” as he called him, for trying to get charges pressed against him.
Blac Youngsta Shows Up In Young Dolph's Neighborhood Heavily-Armed
Earlier this week, Blac Youngsta and his crewmates pulled up in the Castalia neighborhood of South Memphis toting heavy artillery. They were looking for Castalia native Young Dolph, though it seems they weren't able to track him down. It seems the threatening invasion was motivated by a beef that's brewing between Dolph and Yo Gotti, Blac Youngsta's boss at CMG.
Charts Don't Lie: March 2
With Adele taking the #1 spot again this week, the top-selling album in the country alludes the hip hop industry. It wasn't a total loss though, however, as Rihanna jumps from #3 to #2 with her newest record ANTI. Does Rihanna have what it takes to beat out Adele next week? Time will tell...
First-Week Sales For Yo Gotti's "The Art Of Hustle"
This week's Billboard chart is, once again, owned by Adele, taking the No. 1 spot for a staggering tenth time. Her latest, 25, is now the fifth album since 2000 to accumulate double-digit weeks at No. 1.
Kanye West Rants About Taylor Swift, TIDAL, Louis Vuitton At Nightclub
Last night, at Yo Gotti's album release party, was quintessential Kanye West. Kanye premiered a new song featuring Sampha. It was very good. But before he premiered the song, he went on a 9-minute rant about Taylor Swift, Media Takeout, the whole Amber Rose/buttplay thing, Louis Vuitton, and TIDAL. He did all this while standing on top of the DJ Table, with Yo Gotti swigging Ace of Spades to his right.
Kanye West Debuts New Song Featuring Sampha
Kanye West debuted a new song last night at 1 OAK nightclub in Las Vegas, where Yo Gotti was holding his The Art of Hustle album release party. He prefaced this debut by going on a 9-minute rant about Taylor Swift, TIDAL, the media, and other topics.
Top Tracks: February 15 - February 21
After the Kanye-inspired chaos of last week, the past seven days have been relatively tame in the rap world, with the twin titans of last weekend (TLOP and the substantially less interesting Grammy awards) still dominating the conversation. Spillover aside, we got solid new projects from French Montana, Kirko Bangz, Yo Gotti, Young Dolph, TM88, and Gucci Mane/Honorable C-Note, but no Slime Season 3 just yet.
Stream Yo Gotti's New Album "The Art Of Hustle"
We’ve been hearing about Yo Gotti’s album, The Art Of Hustle, ever since the summer of 2014, but now the wait is finally over. With the clock striking midnight, the album was just made available for purchase on iTunes today.
Top Tracks: February 8 - February 14
Tired of hearing about The Life Of Pablo yet? Kanye West's highly anticipated album only dropped about 36 hours ago, but its eventual release was preceded by several days of frustrated waiting, as his haphazard release strategy continued (and may still be ongoing) with a series of remixing, tracklist updates, and delays. Annoying, yes, but you have to admit that the guy knows how to keep himself in the daily conversation for longer than nearly anyone in our era of short attention spans.
