Born Yassin Samatar on New York’s Upper West Side, Yazzi was immediately immersed in music, as his father was always a collector of eclectic sounds and genres, and his Aunt is a major player in European and Somalian music scenes. Yazzi’s interest had him flowing and writing at the age of 11. Meanwhile, his family relocated to Salt Lake City. As he grew, Yazzi’s interest turned into passion, and his life turned into a mission of spreading his positive message through a powerful art form. Hitting the Salt Lake scene in July 2010, this lyrical mastermind doubles as an entrepreneur, setting goals for his career and gaining popularity because of his clever rhymes and infectious personality.
Yazzi’s hip hop, alternative hip hop, and pop sounds make crowds vibe deep, and his connectable nature and raw talent draws listeners in. He has already established himself as a rising musical influence, booking local and national gigs at venues, festivals, and free-lance summer events. He has collaborations set up with major artists, is working on his debut album, and is preparing for a world tour which encompasses the United States, Europe, and Canada. Despite his obvious rise, Yazzi has not allowed the ever-growing popularity to get to his head.
