Hip Hop artist, XCEL was born as Josh Paull in Miami Beach, Florida. During the early years of childhood his father thought it was best to move on and leave behind his family. As a result, XCEL was raised by his courageous mother. Once he was of the legal age he officially changed his name to, Josh Gold, letting go of a father-less past he grew up knowing. When asked why he changed his name he enthusiastically responded with “to start my own generation!” His love for music became clear the first time he watched the 1984 release of the classic, Beat Street. In the 4th grade XCEL made his first stage appearance before his entire school and performed, Color Me Badd – “I Wanna Sex You Up.” From a young age, it’s obvious that captivating an audience and being in the spotlight came as second nature for the artist. In 2003, XCEL paired up with an engineer to write, perform and co-produce his first mix-tape, The Revolutions. Comparing his style of lyrical abilities to another artist would be misleading considering his hybrid flow. What started as poetry naturally transitioned into songs with catchy story lines and artistic wordplay. Along with Desperate Audio, XCEL wrote and produced his first full length solo album titled; T-Shirts & Flip-Flops, a fourteen song collection of humorous lines, vividly painted stories and an unorthodox delivery of beats and rhymes. The official release date is Friday, June 8th. After years of recording and performing on the underground scene, it’s apparent that this artist goes beyond the formalities of normality to consistently create a unique sound each and every time. His drive for perfection is shown throughout his catalog. Whether it’s a traditional beat, a touch of funk from the South or the sounds of DubStep, XCEL says he takes an out of the box approach for each new song. His mature and humble attitude will likely have you wondering what he's got up his sleeve. With 2 mixtapes dropping this summer and a calendar of shows from Miami to Gainesville, this is one MC if you don’t know now, you will soon.
