Who's Going On Tour? Spring/Summer Tour Round-Up
A lot of big artists are going on tour this spring and summer. You have mega-stars like Beyonce, Rihanna, and Drake. You have rising stars Anderson .Paak and Bas. You have established vets like Snoop Dogg, Maxwell, and Cam'Ron. And everybody in between. It looks like some legendary tours are going down towards the end of the calendar year. Gucci Mane & Friends tour is scheduled to go down when La Flare gets released from prison in September and Kanye West is also shooting to kick off his The Life of Pablo tour in September as well.
Kanye West Planning "The Life Of Pablo" Tour For September
After rocking some blue eye contacts last night to the Met Gala and sufficiently shocking us, Kanye West called into the Steve Harvey Morning Show this morning for an exclusive interview. The rapper does his usual share of venting and explaining the motives behind his actions. Mid-way through the interview, Ye discusses his twitter spat with Wiz Khalifa, saying,
Top Tracks: April 18 - April 24
What a tumultuous last few days it's been. Reports of Prince's sudden passing rocked us on Thursday, but then hours later we got a new A$AP Ferg album. About 48 hours after that, Lemonade arrived, effectively shutting down everything else on the internet at the time.
Kanye West Says He Was Joking When He Mentioned Wiz Khalifa's Son During Twitter Exchange
Soon before the dramatic release of his latest album, Kanye West entered into a short-lived beef with Wiz Khalifa that rocked the rap world. It all started when Kanye revealed his intent to call the album Waves before settling on the final title of The Life of Pablo. Wiz thought the initial title of Waves was disrespectful of the incarcerated Max B, the Harlem rapper who has long been a purveyor of a "wavy" style of hip-hop.
Every Rap Single To Go #1 On The Hot 100
If you've been watching the charts over the last few years, you'll know that rap isn't dominating the Hot 100, and many of the songs that do make their way to the number one spot might no necessarily represent the genre all that well. Looking back at all the prior rap #1s on the Hot 100, this trend moves in waves. In the early 90s, we saw acts like Vanilla Ice and Marky Mark earning the highest honors of chart presence, but by the early 00s, the reigning singles on the chart were largely authentic rap and R&B songs.
J. Cole, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, & Ice Cube To Headline Pemberton 2016
With festival season approaching, hip hop heads should consider traveling to Pemberton Music Festival in British Columbia, Canada this year. Pemberton just announced the full 2016 lineup and it looks very promising. Snoop Dogg, J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, and Ice Cube are all headliners. Also of interest for hip hop enthusiasts: Tyler, the Creator, Tory Lanez, Anderson .Paak, Method Man and Redman, Rae Sremmurd, Joey Bada$$, Miguel, SZA, Mac Miller, Cypress Hill, FKA twigs, Dizzy Wright, Hudson Mohwake, & Pell.
Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa Announce "The High Road" Summer Tour
Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa, two of hip hop's most prolific smokers and marijuana advocates, are teaming up for "The High Road" tour that will take them across North America this summer. Joining them for the journey will be Kevin Gates, Jhené Aiko, Casey Veggies, and DJ Drama.
Stream Berner's Album "Hempire"
Bay Area resident, Taylor Gang repper/rapper, and #CookiesKing Berner finally comes through today with his anticipated album Hempire. The album's singles have been top-notch, and we expect nothing less than greatness from the entire thing. Hempire is 18 tracks long with an impressive list of features: Snoop Dogg, B-Real, Wiz Khalifa, Mistah FAB, Cozmo, Smiggz, K. Camp. Lil' Kim, Quez, Atmosphere, Young Dolph, Project Pat, Maejor, Strap, and Freeze.
Wiz Khalifa Speaks On His Conversation With Kanye West
Kanye West was in the throes of an epic Twitter frenzy when he claimed that he owned Wiz Khalifa's son back in January.
TM88 Reveals Collab Project With Wiz Khalifa & Juicy J
TM88 landed beats on both Juice's From O's to Oscars as well as Wiz' Cabin Fever 3, and all three of them linked up for "Bake Sale," the lead single off Khalifa, the album Wiz dropped last month. It now seems fans have only begun to reap the benefits of the partnership between the Atlanta "horror trap" maestro and the two Taylor Gang executives.
Wiz Khalifa's Best Wake 'N' Bake Songs
When Wiz Khalifa dropped Kush & Orange Juice, college kids around the country decided to skip class, load up the bong and start the day off like Wiz starts his mixtape: with some "Waken Baken." That entire project was made for an early afternoon with a tall glass of Tropicana and some greenery. It's full of moments that embrace that sun-drenched, airy vibe that Wiz boasted when he started coming up.
Top Tracks: March 7 - March 13
After the excitement of new projects from Kevin Gates, Future, Young Thug, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, French Montana, and Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz, we seem to have hit a bit of a lull three months into 2016. Views From The 6 is (hopefully) in sight for April, and A$AP Ferg and ILoveMakonnen both should have new material out in the next few weeks, but March is definitely looking like a down month for hip hop's upper echelon.
When Beefs Go Too Far
Earlier this week, Troy Ave continued even further down the path of making his career double as a masterclass in wildly misguided beefing, taking aim at the deceased Capital STEEZ on a Joey Bada$$ diss track.
Charts Don't Lie: February 17
The Billboard Chart saw a new number one this week in the form of Future, whose album EVOL is currently the top-selling album in the country. Apparently rolling it out on DJ Khaled's radio show wasn't such a bad idea, as the record has sold nearly 100k in its first week. Making way for Future's climb to the top is Rihanna, who slipped from #1 to #3 this week.
Top Tracks: February 8 - February 14
Tired of hearing about The Life Of Pablo yet? Kanye West's highly anticipated album only dropped about 36 hours ago, but its eventual release was preceded by several days of frustrated waiting, as his haphazard release strategy continued (and may still be ongoing) with a series of remixing, tracklist updates, and delays. Annoying, yes, but you have to admit that the guy knows how to keep himself in the daily conversation for longer than nearly anyone in our era of short attention spans.
Review: Wiz Khalifa's "Khalifa"
As time continues to edge its way further, a rapper's career seems to warp underneath the passing moments. For some, greater success or second stages have come to them only after years of hard work. Others have stagnated, or maybe the years have just caught up to the reality of their talent. Wiz Khalifa isn't one of those rappers, because quite frankly, one might say that beyond his family life, not one aspect of Wiz has changed in so many years.
