Wale Says Jay Z's The Greatest To Ever Do It .... Hands Down
Wale Says Jay Z's The Greatest To Ever Do It .... Hands Down Sep 30, 2013 at 10:03pm
With Jay Z’s third album, Hard Knock Vol. 2, turning 15 years old already yesterday, XXL Magazine decided to have MMG’s own Wale write a review on the album. That's right, Wale wrote the review. The MMG rapper started his review with a rather bold, yet valid point. “Jay Is the greatest to do it -- hands down." He says your really just mad if you debate that Jay isn't the greatest. Talking further about the album, Wale wrote the following review:

MMG have certainly done their share of promotion for Self Made Vol. 3, with plenty of videos, leaks, and special events leading up to its release. The sales numbers are now in for the first week, and the project has moved 51,355 units.

Mmmmaybach music. The heaviest group in hip-hop presents the third volume of their Self Made album series. Formulaically, the self-proclaimed untouchable Maybach empire haven't missed a step. Likewise previous installments in the series, Self Made Vol. 3 is packed with speaker-knocking beats driven by Rozay and company. Little new is brought to the table, but that doesn't mean the double-M G crew isn't still eating.

This week was obviously a memorable one for hip-hop, with Big Sean's "Control" dropping and a Kendrick Lamar frenzy ensuing. While the verse has received way more attention than we could have imagined, plenty of rappers are retaliating and introducing new excitement into the rap game which isn't a bad thing.

Kevin Durant and James Harden were seen last week in Los Angeles attending a Dodgers game together, and now we get a look at the former teammates partying together at Lure Nightclub’s Toxic day party. Chicago Bulls forward, Taj Gibson was in attendance in the event that was rife with hip hop talent as well.  Wale hung out with KD, as the two DMV products know each other and even appeared in a Skullcandy commercial together.
A New Collaboration Between Wale, Mariah Carey & Jermaine Dupri Is On The Way
A New Collaboration Between Wale, Mariah Carey & Jermaine Dupri Is On The Way Aug 4, 2013 at 03:57pm
Wale took to Twitter this afternoon to announce a new collaborative track with Mariah Carey and Jermaine Dupri. Unfortunately, that's all the information we have at this point.  There are several possibilities as to where the track will live. It could be a remix from Wale's recent album The Gifted. It could be a new single from Mariah's upcoming album The Art of Letting Go. There's also a chance it could appear on Maybach Music Group's forthcoming Self Made Vol. 3 compilation. We'll just have to wait and see.

Charts Don’t Lie: July 28 Jul 28, 2013 at 01:39pm
Our new entry on Charts Don't Lie this week belongs to Ace Hooooood. The rapper constantly on his grind delivered Trials & Tribulations after months of promotion, a huge hit single, "Bugatti," a listening event, among other things. And while it worked in his favor somewhat (it's his best sales to date), it's still not very much of an improvement from his last album, Blood, Sweat & Tears. Trials & Tribulations is Ace's best debut week thus far, but that's with only 34,000 units sold-- not even 10k more than his 2011 album.

Jay Z stays breaking records, literally. The rap superstar is not only seeing plenty of success with his single off Magna Carta Holy Grail, but he is also making Billboard history with the album. This week a few records were made by Hov, including the title of the most #1s in Billboard history-- and the rest you can read about below.

Wale is known for having some of the rarest kicks on the planet from samples to player exclusives. A few days ago he posted this first pic to his Instagram. I will say, this room does have a wide variety of kicks from the Iman Shumpert x Packer Shoes collab to the Platinum Air Yeezy 2.

Soon Jay-Z is going to be on the charts, undoubtedly dominating the top spot, which belonged to J. Cole this week. Jay-Z's new album has made waves not only for it's creative rollout but for changing the rules of RIAA, in order to ensure the album went platinum before it even dropped, unlike our other chart-toppers this week, who are working their way to platinum the old-fashioned way. On top of Magna Carta Holy Grail already being platinum, it's also on track to sell a more-than-solid 350-400k units opening week.

June 18th will forever be a day locked in the mind of hip-hop fans because of the three important album releases on that day. The week of June 18th was memorable because each hip-hop album that dropped-- Kanye West, J. Cole and Mac Miller-- broke the 100k mark. Now, once more, history on the Billboard 200 has been made.
Lyrics Of The Week: July 5-11
Lyrics Of The Week: July 5-11 Jul 12, 2013 at 03:57pm
There's quite a bit of repetition in the game these days, and specific lyrics tend to get overlooked. This is an opportunity to take a closer listen and really consider what these artists have to say. We encourage your opinions.  Keep in mind, these are the most noteworthy lyrics of the week, not necessarily the best. Also, it's hard to get everything right - if you notice any errors, don't hesitate to let us know in the comments section. Lines we're not quite sure about will be bolded.

After 3 weeks of battling with Kanye West, and later Wale, J. Cole's Born Sinner has topped the Billboard charts. Reportedly moving 55,000 units, Cole's album dropped 33% from last week but still edged out its competitors.

This week on Charts Don't Lie we have one new entry, and that's Wale with The Gifted. Wale is an interesting rapper to consider, because there's no denying people love to hate on him. We saw this with the resurgence of old tweets from rappers-- one thing they seemed to all have in common was their strong dislike from Mr. Folarin. And it's not even just those tweets from back in the day, even now, Wale receives more than his fair share of hate. Is is his personality? His attitude? His sometimes corny raps?

Wale's new album The Gifted is doing very well, debuting at number one last week. While the album is chock full of singles, the DC rapper has explained that their is a dense thematic arc to the project. He broke down some of the tracks with Billboard, including the remix to his single "Bad" with Rihanna.
