Rap is the most competitive genre in music. For decades, artists reveled in competition because they wanted to prove that they were elite. Whenever a rapper elected to feature his or her peer on a track, both sides were trying to out-duel the other, simply for competitive reasons. Artists knew that for years to come, fans would debate about who outperformed who. That’s why when Kendrick Lamar delivered his “Control” verse, fans applauded his voracious stab at the industry. That’s why we love rap.

A few days ago Wale put out a brand new album called The Album About Nothing. If you're not a fan of "Seinfeld," it may sound like Mr. Folarin is trying too hard to make some sort of weird artistic statement. But if you're a fan of the 90s comedy show, or a longtime fan of Wale's music, you know that this isn't the first record to be centered around the sitcom.

Earlier this week, we saw the release of two highly anticipated albums, Ludacris’ Ludaversal & Wale’s The Album About Nothing. While it feels like Ludacris has been much more active in the promo game this week, that may not directly correlate to albums sales however. So who will sell more in the opening week?

The Evolution Of Wale
The Evolution Of Wale Mar 5, 2015 at 03:36pm
Seven years ago, a rapper from Washington D.C. captured the nation's attention with a mixtape based on one of the most successful sitcoms of all-time. In just under two weeks, Wale will be releasing the long-awaited album companion to that Seinfeld-inspired Mixtape About Nothing, but the road he's traveled between '08 and 2015 isn't what you'd expect from his hipster-friendly, underground beginnings.

Wale's New Single With Usher, "The Matrimony," Drops Tomorrow Mar 1, 2015 at 03:46pm
Wale's fourth LP, The Album About Nothing hits stores on March 31st, so it's about time the rapper got the wheels rolling on a big single. Today, Folarin did just that, announcing "The Matrimony", an Usher-assisted record that will premiere Monday, March 2nd. As the title suggests, the single seems to have a wedding-centric theme, as the art depicts a diamond ring and a dollar sign in opposition. Naturally, it's got the cover is also Seinfeld-themed, which makes us hope there's an envelope joke tucked in there somewhere.

The death of A$AP Yams has shook up much of the hip-hop community, and of course those who had working and personal relationships with the Mob co-founder were even more in shock. Over the weekend there was a memorial service for Yams in New York, as well as a private one for close friends and family.
