On the music front, it was quiet for much of this week, and instead of looking ahead, it felt like everybody was looking back on all the great music that has dropped this year, especially as the year-end lists have begun to surface. That all changed yesterday, though, with news that J. Cole would be dropping his first album in two years. Earlier this year, HNHH launched a Spotify playlist called FIRE EMOJI: The Hottest Hip Hop Songs Right Now.  The playlist is updated on a daily basis. It lives on Spotify and thus is inherently imperfect, because not all super-hot hip hop songs have been added to Spotify. Still, the playlist is generally representative of the best new releases in hip hop and R&B.

Since debuting last year, Drake's OVO Sound Radio installation on Apple's Beats 1 has proven a huge force in debuting music by already-established stars as well as breaking new talent like Kodak Black, dvsn, and WizKid. Obviously, it's an engine that's benefitted its creator the most, creating huge events out of the debuts of What A Time To Be Alive, "Summer Sixteen," and VIEWS, but the 6 God has spread the love too.

He has already scored one of the early awards, as VIEWS has been given the award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album. Nothing against VIEWS, but it wasn't the stiffest of competition for Drake, as he the other two albums in the Rap/Hip-Hop category were Fetty Wap's self-titled debut and another album that he was involved in, What a Time to Be Alive, a joint release with Future.

Lien With It: Artists Who Got Caught Not Paying Their Taxes Nov 14, 2016 at 05:31pm
For whatever reason, rappers fail to pay their taxes at a rate higher than almost any other profession. In many instances, the IRS issues a tax-dodging rapper a lien, which asserts the rights of the state to their property until they pay off their debt.

Wiz Khalifa's Taylor Gang is a staple in the rap game, and they've added a few choice names to their roster over the past few years, although we haven't heard of a new addition lately-- perhaps with this new deal with Atlantic Records under their belt, though, that'll change.

Drake added to the absurd list of rappers, singers, and athletes he's brought out over the course of the Summer Sixteen tour. Thursday night, during the last of three concerts, at Inglewood's Los Angles Forum, he outdid himself once again by bringing out Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Big Sean, & French Montana. Big Sean joined Drake on "All Me" and French joined Drake on "No Shopping," but the clear highlights of the evening came when hometown heroes Ice Cube and Dr. Dre brought the house down with "You Can Do It" and "The Next Episode."

His hometown is part of his moniker, and Scotty ATL has managed to stand out among Atlanta's sea of melodically-inclined rappers, consistently delivering quality material. Scotty's talent is striking all over his new project, Daily Bread. But the unmistakable takeaway from the project is a feeling of inspiration.

The week before Labor Day brought us some nice late summer treats in the form of Travis Scott's Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight, Isaiah Rashad's The Sun's Tirade, and Fabolous' Summertime Shootout 2. Scott leads the pack with three appearances, but oddly enough, none as a lead artist.
