The Weeknd rose up as a largely anonymous kid from Toronto who released three epic mixtapes in 2011. March, August and December each held a release date for this dude who was mixing sounds of electronica, hip-hop, dubstep, R&B, downtempo and soul in a way that had never been done before.Well, it worked. In November of 2012 The Weeknd reissued the three mix tapes on the Triology release which donned his face on the cover. He was no longer an anonymous kid from Toronto, he was now a certified star and, in many ways, a sex symbol.

There has been no artist in our culture that has had a more storied four years than The Weeknd. The Scarborough, Canada native currently sits in a pop music position that he probably never had imagined himself in. When House Of Balloons dropped in March of 2011, no one knew who or what The Weeknd was. He was, literally, a faceless voice that made music about the raw realities of being a young man growing up in a small, drug-driven, lust-crazed environment.

Some things are the same. Drake and the Weeknd were known not only for showing a whole lot of "Crew Love," but also being a pretty unstoppable songwriting team, as evidenced by some of the best moments on Drizzy's Take Care (otherwise known as rap's Songs In The Key Of Life).

Mixtapes are like opinions. Everyone has one, but not all of them matter. Your mixtape should be a totally uninhibited creative space. A platform where you can impulsively exhibit your talent for a more focused and passionate audience. The mixtape is a very reliable vehicle for hip-hop, especially in the digital era where free information spreads feverishly. In some cases, artists give away music that is significantly more awesome than their commercial releases. It just depends.

We haven't gotten a new full length from The Weeknd in almost two years, and with three of his new singles ("THe Hills," "Earned It" and "Can't Feel My Face") currently tearing up the charts, he couldn't be dropping Beauty Behind The Madness at a better time. Arriving on August 28th, the album will only have one feature, as revealed by the just released tracklist. It'll come from another artist who rose from the shadows of dark, mysterious early recordings to become a star in her own right, Lana Del Rey. View the full thing below.

That's right, the veteran R&B star turnt Furious 7 actor has landed his very first number one with his sixth studio album. Meanwhile, Meek Mill keeps the units moving, sticking close at the number three spot. Drake comes in at 9, while the other rap albums were shut out of the top ten once again. As we already know, Future is set to top next week's charts, which will make for yet another consecutive week where a rap or R&B album reigns supreme.
