Stevie Stone Breaks Down His New Album "Malta Bend"
When rappers decide on nostalgic titles for albums, they'll often choose the names of streets, landmarks or neighborhoods from their childhood, but Stevie Stone wanted to go back even further. His new album Malta Bend (in stores today) is named for the tiny Missouri town where his parents met, and we were lucky enough to sit down with him at Strange Music HQ to get the scoop.

Chris Webby's debut album, Chemically Imbalanced, came out last November, but he's still pulling hits off the LP for videos. His latest puts him together with Strange Music's Tech N9ne and Funk Volume's Jarren Benton, each with their own cult following. Paired with Webby's own loyal fanbase, there's a pretty wide audience for this one. All involved do what they do best, each turning their own animated style of double-time rap.

Murs Talks Signing To Strange Music, "Have A Nice Life"
Since Murs released his last album, 2012's Yumiko: Curse of the Merch Girl, a lot has changed for him, namely a move from a major label to an indie. Thankfully, though, his new album arrives two weeks after his label boss debuted at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100-- no small feat for any indie artist. Murs' Have A Nice Life drops this week on Tech N9ne's Strange Music label, and recently, we got a chance to chop it up with him. In it, he offers a description of the album's title:

Tech N9ne Gives Life Lessons To His Fans
To promote his new Special Effects album, Tech N9ne has been making his rounds at various media publications and outlets to conduct some interviews. For his latest sit-down, Tech visited Jen Deleon, of SkeeTV, to talk about what advice he’d give to his fans. His answer? Happiness. “The goal is to be happy as fuck.” “You can’t live life angry. Whatever you do, find that happy for you, because the negative shit has to go away, you don’t need it in your circle”.

Tech N9ne Feat. T.I. & Zuse "On The Bible" Video
Just one look at Tech N9ne's Special Effects tracklist will tell you it's the Strange Music rapper's most varied effort yet. Working with members of Slipknot, Eminem, 2 Chainz, and many more, every song functions as a different experiment. "On The Bible" is an Atlanta-leaning track, featuring a Dancehall-infused hook from Zuse, as well as T.I. greeting Tech N9ne's challenge with some impressive double time.

Tech N9ne Feat. B.o.B & 2 Chainz "Hood Go Crazy" Video
Tech N9ne's upcoming album, Special Effects, has a pretty eclectic lineup of features, but one look at the bill for "Hood Go Crazy," made it clear it was the party record of the bunch. Unsurprisingly, it's also been chosen as the single, and the new video for the track lives up to the fun-loving vibe of the song. You can't have a party without a good ratio of women, and as Tech told us in a recent interview, this video is a far cry from a sausage fest. Tech's new album is due out May 4th. Get prepared.

Murs Feat. MNDR "No More Control" Video
A month before Murs drops Have a Nice Life, the L.A. rapper gives us the video to "No More Control", his latest single. "No More Control" is a piece of "educated street music", which features Fools Gold artist MNDR singing the hook. The song, and the video, says Murs, is a response to the proliferating violence both inflicted upon and within minority communities. "I think the majority of the opportunity for change is still in our control."

  • Tech N9ne Takes The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
Tech N9ne Takes The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
Earlier today we saw Eminem and Rihanna take the Ice Bucket challenge, and now Tech N9ne has joined in on the craze (for a good cause). The Strange Music rapper had actually been nominated a number of times before he got a chance to participate, but made up for it by taking the plunge 3 times in a row. Tech nominated Stevie Wonder and Ice Cube (explaining the pun was totally intended). Watch the slows motion capture of the event above.

Slaine Feat. Tech N9ne & Madchild "Bobby Be Real" Video
"Bobby Be Real" was met with reader- and editor-acclaim when it dropped on August 5th with all listeners in agreement that Slaine's satirical take on the fast life. Now, Slaine is back on our pages with the single's official video. A throwback to the classic horrorcore videos of the early 2000s, this production design-heavy take on the material is as zany as the song that inspired it. Tech N9ne and Madchild appear for their verses as well.

CES Cru is back with Codename: Ego Stripper, the group's sophomore LP under the Strange Music umbrella. Backed by four "VERY HOTTTT" singles (available for streaming here), the project now firmly rests in the top five on the iTunes hip-hop album charts--a considerable feat for an independent rap duo with next-to-no radio play.

Tech N9ne Feat. ¡Mayday! & Kendall Morgan "Fragile (Jimmy Kimmel Live Performance)" Video
In a huge step for independent rap music, Tech N9ne made his national television debut this past Tuesday (June 24th) on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Performing "Fragile," the critically-acclaimed single off the rapper's 2013 album Something Else, Tech was joined by ¡Mayday!, Krizz Kaliko and Kendall Morgan. Unfortunately, Kendrick Lamar (who delivered a killer verse on the studio version) was unable to attend the recording.

Tech N9ne Feat. Mackenzie O’Guin "Fear" Video
Tech N9ne continues to deliver visuals off his collabos project Strangeulation. After teaming up with new signee Murs in the music video for "Hard", Tech returns with Mackenzie O'Guin in the visual for the heart-wrenching "Fear." It's a deeply personal record, and thus Tech shared a personal message to go with the video. Read what he had to say below.
  • Tech N9ne Feat. MURS "Hard" Video
Tech N9ne Feat. MURS "Hard" Video
"Hard" served as the first single from Tech N9ne's Strangeulation LP, and the song has now been given a brand new official video. The video accurately captures the energetic nature of the collaboration, with both rappers delivering their verses in a characteristically animated fashion. Tech is in the middle of his "Independent Grind" tour with the likes of Krizz Kaliko, Freddie Gibbs, Jarren Benton and Psych Ward Druggies, while MURS has his own co-headlining tour with ¡Mayday! planned.

Tech N9ne Feat. Godemis, Stevie Stone, Murs Wrekonize, Bernz, Kutt Calhoun, Ubiquitous Prozak & Krizz Kaliko "Strangeulation Cypher" Video
Tech N9ne just released a Strange Music compilation album, and throughout the runtime, there are quite a few cypher's that show off the ferocious double time-style adopted by much of the crew. One of those cyphers now has a video accompaniment. Stretching 9 minutes, and 10 verses long, it's quite an undertaking, but fans of the collective-- and there are many --will likely be very excited by the results.
