Royce Da 5'9"
You may recall back in December we released a "Day in the Life" video with our good homie Tory Lanez. We decided to bring back that segment real quick during one of Royce Da 5'9"'s hectic press runs in NYC. The 1/2 of Bad Meets Evil was busy promoting his new album, Layers (out now), and we got to shadow him to see what it really takes to be in this business.

Royce Da 5'9" has been going heavy on the promo run for his new album, Layers, which hit shelves on Friday last week. The Detroit native shows no signs of slowing yet, with a brand new sit-down on The Breakfast Club arriving this morning. This follows up the morning show's interview with none other than Hillary Clinton yesterday.

Royce da 5'9" stopped by the Hot 97 studios to promote his sixth studio album Layers in an interview with Peter Rosenberg. He called the album "re-introduction to Royce da 5'9" following his battle with alcoholism. "It's more introspective," he said. "A lot more personal... probably what my first album should have sounded like."

Royce Da 5'9"
Royce Da 5’9” has been in the game for a minute. First coming onto the scene in Detroit before quickly finding a kindred spirit in Eminem, he’s been known as one of the most lyrical spitters in the game and one of the only who can go toe to toe with Em. He recently went on an extended hiatus from solo music, getting sober in the process and finding himself driven to create new music.

To rev up the anticipation for his upcoming album, Layers, Royce da 5'9" has shared a new track, "Which Is Cool," along with an accompanying video. The track is a "pre-album bonus" that won't be included on Layers, but regardless, it's a sharp take on some of the more lamentable trends in the rap game as well in the streets.

Somehow, PRhyme flew under the radar for a lot of people in 2014 despite putting out one of the more solid releases. The duo of DJ Premier and Royce Da 5’9” gave the self-titled debut album second life with the release of a deluxe version that featured four more feature heavy tracks.

ESPN's "First Take" recently got a revamped theme song courtesy of Wale, and now the network's pre-game show "NBA Countdown" has called upon two of hip-hop's elite, DJ Premier and Royce da 5'9", aka PRhyme, to create its opening music. The new song is called "Rockin' with the Best," and you can listen to it in a new video clip that will presumably be NBA Countdown's opening sequence from here on out.

Slaughterhouse recently shared their contribution to the "Southpaw" soundtrack, "R.N.S.," and with Joell Ortiz saying that the group's new album is finished being recorded, the four-piece paid a well-timed visit to Hot 97's Ebro In The Morning.

After debuting their new record, produced by AraabMUZIK and Just Blaze, last week, Slaughterhouse quickly return this week with the official music video for the song. The song unfortunately isn't a single off their anticipated album Glass House, rather its a contribution to the "Southpaw" soundtrack, which was executive produced by Eminem.

Twigg Martin makes his third appearance on HNHH with the release of a new music video for "Talk Is Cheap." The rapper nabbed a nice feature from 1/4 of Slaughterhouse, Royce Da 5'9", on the cut which actually first dropped almost exactly a year ago today. Better late than never, as they say.

Funny Or Die: DJ Premier Debuts New Sound
PRhyme Feat. Miguel & Lady Of Rage
There's no doubt that DJ Premier has crafted some of hip hop's most iconic instrumentals, but nothing he's recorded before compares to these new tracks he has in the works. Premiering some exclusive instrumentals for Royce Da 5'9'', Lady of Rage, and Miguel, the Gang Starr DJ gives us a taste of the new sound that he's pursuing. As Miguel says, it's the kind of stuff you want to hear when naked and wrapped up in cashmere. Hip-hop's been "hard" for a few decades now. Isn't about time the genre went a bit softer? Let us know what you're thinking.

On December 9th, Detroit-based lyrical assassin Royce Da 5'9" and living legend DJ Premier will be uniting under the name PRhyme (pronounced like "prime") for a self-titled album. With Preemo solely sampling music by the talented, retro-minded musician Adrian Younge, and a whole host of big-name guests showing up for verses, PRhyme should be quite the listen.

PRhyme's self-titled debut is primed (pun intended) to be one of the most exciting projects of the fall, and today the duo that comprises of DJ Premier and Royce Da 5'9" have released a video for their self-titled track.  In it, Royce describes his alcoholism (he's been sober since 2012), and postulates theories about the various pitfalls of womanizing. It's just the sort of mature, impressive track you'd expect from the duo.
