Rihanna & Drake's "Work" Spends Another Week At #1 On Billboard Hot 100
Rihanna & Drake's "Work" Spends Another Week At #1 On Billboard Hot 100 Feb 29, 2016 at 04:59pm
Drake may still be without a solo #1, but "Work" is his second collaboration with Rihanna to top the charts, and it doesn't seem to have any plans to leave its perch. Last week, the single managed to steal the glory from Justin Bieber's "Love Yourself" just as the double video for the track dropped, meaning that those VEVO streams have now been counted towards this week's numbers, so it's pretty obvious "Work" wasn't going anywhere.

Other than some resurfacing beefs (between Young Thug and The Game, and Rick Ross and Birdman, respectively) and the beginning of what is sure to be another drawn-out, highly-publicized Kanye West album rollout, it was a relatively quiet week, especially as far as full-length releases went.

Rap and R&B stars were flexing as much as ever this week, and while we usually see a beef or two spring up on Instagram, this cycle (for the most part) kept things pretty positive. Despited the fact he still hasn't made an account (that we know about, at least) Kanye West was all over the 'Gram over the last few days, taking som pics with 2 Chainz, Yo Gotti, Pusha T, and French Montana.

Keke Palmer is known in some circles as the Queen of Snapchat, and she bolstered her Snapchat legend by sharing snippets from PND's "Work" reference track via the social media platform.

Following the Grammys there was a surge that gave hip hop artists a boost in sales. For example, Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly jumped up from #60 to #16 after crushing it at the award show. The Weeknd also jumped from #12 back into the top 10, landing at #6 for his post-Grammy week on the charts.

Fresh off of its debut at fashion week yesterday, we have a first look at Puma’s “Fenty By Rihanna” sneaker line. We’ll leave the clothing out, but these trainers are distinctive enough to warrant some attention. Besides, Rihanna was recently credited by Puma for increasing their Q4 sales beyond expectations.

Puma isn’t really considered a major player within the sneaker industry. People definitely wear Pumas, but they can’t touch Nike or Adidas in terms of cultural clout. However, they might be well on their way to changing that with a few well chosen celebrity associations.

The Billboard Chart saw a new number one this week in the form of Future, whose album EVOL is currently the top-selling album in the country. Apparently rolling it out on DJ Khaled's radio show wasn't such a bad idea, as the record has sold nearly 100k in its first week. Making way for Future's climb to the top is Rihanna, who slipped from #1 to #3 this week.

Tired of hearing about The Life Of Pablo yet? Kanye West's highly anticipated album only dropped about 36 hours ago, but its eventual release was preceded by several days of frustrated waiting, as his haphazard release strategy continued (and may still be ongoing) with a series of remixing, tracklist updates, and delays. Annoying, yes, but you have to admit that the guy knows how to keep himself in the daily conversation for longer than nearly anyone in our era of short attention spans.

Future hit the top of the charts again this week, as his album EVOL achieved a #1 ranking on the Billboard charts after releasing last Friday. The Atlanta rapper beat out juggernauts like Adele, Coldplay and Rihanna for the top spot. While none of those three had new albums out, they each have a much more palatable and digestible sound than Future’s trap tales.

The Billboard 200 Chart shifted considerably over the past week, leaving artists like Tank in the dust as the likes of Rihanna and Kevin Gates rose to take the #1 and #2 positions, respectively. Rihanna's album, which debuted at #27 last week, claimed the #1 position we all expected it to have. The reasoning for the weak debut was on a technicality, but now that the album is properly available, it moved nearly 125,000 units.

Constant new music from the game's biggest stars has become the norm. And while it's almost too much to digest, we're not complaining. This week's Top Tracks is dominated by Future, Drake, and Rihanna, and it's likely those names aren't going anywhere -- Future, especially, who's already dropped two projects this year, adding to the four he put out in 2015. And don't let me forget about Meek. Drizzy stans aren't gonna let him live any time soon, though most everything he's dropped this year has cracked the Top 10. He's finally using all the controversy to his advantage.
