Ramel Shakur

Sayquan Mckoy (born January 7th, 1991), also known as Ramel Shakur is a rapper, singer and songwriter from Greensboro, NC. Before the name "Ramel Shakur" he went by the name "Saycrack" but changed it because he felt it would "imply the wrong message" and "wasn't a household name". In the midst of trying to find " the right stage name" he looked up the meaning of his middle name (Ramel) and found it meant "Son" in Arabic and the last name (Shakur) which means "Thankful to God" seemed like a perfect match. Before deciding he would pursue rap he was a singer in a gospel group and toured to different cities within his homestate. After leaving the group he felt he could better express himself through the sounds of hiphop and started working on various tracks over R&B instrumentals. Over time he found his own sound by mixing melodic vocals and catchy punch lines that come straight from the soul. Ramel likes to think of himself as a "Leader of the new school" who will someday change the current state of music.
