Oxygen Pernell (AudioDopeness)
- Rearview Feat. Paul Louigene
"Oxygen Pernell" ~The Breath of Hip-Hop~ The goal is simple... to make good music, but the meaning is much deeper than words. It's to touch the lives of the listeners with a part of my own, to give enjoyment to the ears, and a message to the heart. What defines a man is not his ideas, but how he puts those ideas into action. I aim to change the world one play at a time and to journey through the music industry as a voice of reason, an entertainer of truth and a recognizer of real. So I ask "Will you take the journey with me?” Oxygen Pernell has been writing rhymes since he was 13 years old. Though music has always been a passion of Pernell's, it all began early on in the form of poetry. It wasn’t until later after some convincing by a friend he began turning his poetry into songs writing his first song called "Grace Blockers" for a talent show at his local church. Pernell seeing that he had the ability to move a crowd decided to pursue his ambitions as a hip-hop artist and use his gift of writing to share his thoughts with the world through music. Born and raised in Baltimore Maryland, it was during his high school years that he began to perfect his craft writing daily and free styling for hours to develop his flow and lyrical persona. He would often spit rhymes for his classmates and the upperclassmen as a freshman and worked constantly to improve his skills. Though the road has not always been easy; growing up without a father and witnessing the daily struggle of a mother working and putting him children through school along with providing for two younger siblings, it was always a constant reminder to him of why it has always been his dream to make it in the music industry. After completion of high school and wining numerous speech writing and essay awards Pernell went on to attend Penn State University. While in his freshman and sophomore years he won numerous talent shows for his songs moving on to other campuses to perform his music. During the summer of 2011, Pernell had the opportunity to perform in the Baltimore Superstar competition rocking a crowd of 2,000+ people. He subsequently released various singles and two mix tapes during that time. When he entered his junior and senior year of college he began to expand his fan base at a larger campus doing numerous events to share his music from winning the campus Apollo to doing multiple open mic events. He's since abandoned his old music in turn for a more recent professional debut. Oxygen is set to graduate in spring of 2014 with a degree in English Literature and a minor in IST (Information Sciences Technology).
