Wande Isola was born in the culture filled country of Nigeria and raised in Austin, Texas. From a young age Wande was introduced to the church and knew something was special about this God. She had grown up in the church, but didn’t have a personal encounter until the young age of 12 while attending a youth camp. “I felt God’s love and knew I couldn’t continue living life without Christ in the center of it.”
From that moment Wande began to live life for Christ, but never imagined that she would be rapping. Being academically gifted, Wande faithfully served Christ while striving for excellence in her studies maintaining a 4.0 gpa. Meanwhile, God had an interesting surprise awaiting Wande in her biology class.
Approaching her teacher, Wande Isola thought to herself. “This is going to be interesting.” “My report’s about cellular transport,” she said as she turned in the rap. Following the directions, “You can do the project as a poster, a PowerPoint or a rap,” Wande saw that the rap was different, and while not required to recite the lyrics to the class, she decided to perform her piece to her friends later that day.
Delivering a flow of rhythmic lyrics, she spat out, “All cells are surrounded by a membrane. The structure up inside of that can drive you kind of insane.”
In amazement, her friends laughed. Allowing herself to be creative that day, she took a chance, and she’s been rapping ever since.
Receiving a positive response from her classmates, Wande became motivated. And, after a month of writing and practicing, Wande presented her art form to her church.
“God is the focus of my life,” Wande said. “Knowing that my messages will have positive impacts on other’s lives fills me with joy.”
Two years later, 16 year old Wande is still seeking God while striving for excellence within her craft. “I want to show people you can be an excellent musician while still having a relationship with God.”
For now, Wande resides in Austin with her parents where she actively strives for excellence within different areas such as dancing and academics. Wande also serves at RCCG Salvation Center Church located in Austin. She is even making an impact in her school with leadership positions such as being class president, and winning homecoming princess two years in a row!
“I want people to see my life and be encouraged that when you seek God’s kingdom first, He will provide for you and blow your mind!”
