They've been seen together a few times in the past month, with one picture in particular sparking some gossip due to Nicki having her arms around Meek, but now, they've topped it with a new Instagram post.

This week both Joey Bada$$ and Lupe Fiasco finally make their splash on the Billboard 200. One splash was bigger than another, though. The sales projections for both artists were pretty accurate, with Joey doing 57,694 units when you take into account the single and album streams, and Lupe doing 42,458. Joey's numbers not only outdid his veteran competitor Lupe Fiasco, but he also outdid fellow newcomers Rae Sremmurd, who are currently charting in their third week.

This week proved to be a big one for hip-hop music, with Joey Bada$$ and Lupe Fiasco dropping their respective albums on the same day (January 20th), not to mention, free projects from Trinidad James, Lil Wayne, Yo Gotti and K Camp. While the latter projects won't be charting on the Billboard 200, both Joey and Lupe are expected to impact shortly. This past week we learned the expected first week sales for either rapper, with Joey Bada$$ (surprisingly? let us know what you think) coming out on top.

Last year, Kanye West took the stage at the first-ever Austin, Texas-set X-Games, and continuing in that tradition, the event has asked Nicki Minaj to headline this year. Minaj promised an especially extreme performance for the occasion, telling TheWrap “I look forward to channeling the energy and spirit from the X Games into a performance Austin will not forget.” The games are set to go down from June 4th to 7th, and will be rounded out by performances from Talib Kweli, Pennywise, and Deltron 3030 on the musical side of things.

While Taylor Swift remains the reigning queen of the Billboard 200, we get a few new entries from the hip-hop sphere this week. Rae Sremmurd, as projected, landed a top 10 Billboard 200 debut with SremmLife. They even did one better, making it into the top 5 by sliding in at #5. The duo definitely had a successful first week out, although they didn't quite break the 50k mark, they sold a solid 46,000.

This week's chart contenders prove to be rather boring, because not much has happened in the past week when it comes to rap, hip-hop and r'n'b charters. We've got Nicki Minaj doing what she does at her #2 spot, which she refuses to leave, we've got J. Cole continuing to hold on to a spot in the top 10, impressively, after charting for four weeks. We've got Iggy Azalea randomly climbing up the charts (thanks to Billboard for counting album and single streams into their chart data), and we've got Loso making a smaller splash in his second week out.

When hip-hop began, samples were all that DJs and producers had to construct instrumental tracks with. They'd dig through crates of vinyl trying to find isolated drum breaks, melodies or vocals that they could repurpose for use in hip-hop music. Today, sampling has become less common, but a choice sample can still push a track from lukewarm to hot faster than you can say "uh-huh honey".  This week, see who Nipsey Hussle, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj sampled on their recent tracks, all of which can be found on HNHH.

2014 may be remembered as one of the weakest years for rap in recent memory, but there were, however, some definite highlights, especially when it came to newcomers. Bobby Shmurda had one of last year’s biggest rap records, DeJ Loaf had one of last year’s most remixed rap records and Young Thug was one of last year’s most talked about rap artists (even if for all of the wrong reasons).

20 Lyrical References To Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj's third album, The Pinkprint, dropped a few weeks back, so we thought we'd go ahead and compile the best rap references to the female beast. And damn were there a lot. Dropping Nicki Minaj's name in a song seems to be a thing. Of course, not all of the references were about Nicki specifically. A lot of them were about her butt or wanting to have a "menage" with Nicki Minaj (that one may be a tad overused). But there were a few clever, meaningful references that stood out, which we've highlighted for you here today.

This week we see a few fluctuations within Charts Don't Lie, however Nicki Minaj keeps the #2 spot on lock with The Pinkprint. It's not a bad resting place per say, although we're sure #1 would have felt that much better. Nicki's numbers have been better than we expected, however, they're no Taylor Swift. In her second week out, she brought her total sales to just over 300k-- J. Cole, on the other hand, has already gone gold, and nears the 600k mark in his third week out.

Writing credits can tell you a lot about the people involved in the conception of a song, but they unfortunately can't tell you who contributed what. Scanning the liner notes of The Pinkprint revealed plenty of songwriting from Ester Dean, but the most surprising name came up on "Feelin' Myself", Solana Rowe, AKA TDE's resident R&B artist, SZA.

New year's is here, and thus begins the annual ritual. A few trips to the liquor store to grab the bottle. Texting and calling friends to find out where the turn-up is at. Going crazy enough to celebrate the end of one year, while trying to not screw yourself already for the next 365 days. Rinse and repeat a year later.

Nicki Minaj dominates the charts this week, although, there is one artist she isn't able to dominate: you guessed it, Taylor Swift. No matter, Nicki outdid sales projections with her first week on shelves, after moving a sold 244,00 units; basically 100k more than we expected. Magic? Or did Cash Money snatch up 100k copies? We'll let you be the judge. We're also seeing D'Angelo make a return to the Billboard 200 after a good ten years, with his surprise new album Black Messiah.
