Nas On Charleston Shooting: "Racism Is Rotting America"
On Wednesday night, nine people were gunned down in a church in Charleston, South Carolina by 21 year old Dylann Roof. This sent a wave of shock around the entire country, and has led some rappers to speak up about racism, gun laws and/or mental illness. Yesterday, Killer Mike said he wishes that the churchgoers were armed, and today, Nas focused more on the mental illness side of things.

Christina Aguilera Brings Out Nas During NBA All-Star Intro
The NBA All-Star game has shown a concerted effort to honor its host city this year. Before tonight's game, Christina Aguilera started things off with a Big Apple-themed intro, performing a cover of Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York." As the song winds down, we hear the instantly recognizable "N.Y. State of Mind" beat creep in. Enter New York's finest: Nasir Jones. At the 4:00 mark, Nas performs "N.Y. State of Mind," off the legendary Illmatic. Though barely a minute long, Nas walks off stage leaving the whole Barclay's center with goosebumps.

Timbaland Previews New Nas Track He Produced
Nas made one of his most critically acclaimed albums yet with the release of Life Is Good, but the New York rapper has been pretty reclusive since then. Of course, the rumor that he'll eventually do an album exclusively with DJ Premier has been thrown around, but Nas himself has stated that his next album will not be the Primo record. The first taste of what Esco may have in store for us has now made its way online, with Timbaland sharing a snippet of a new song he produced for the rapper. We'll keep you update with any further updates on the album.

Back in 2011, the venerated Beastie Boys released their last album before one of the three members, MCA (Adam Yaunch), tragically passed away as a result of cancer in 2012. While it's looking like that album, Hot Sauce Committee, will be the crew's last, today we get a bit of new content in the form of a previously-unreleased for their Nas collab, "Too Many Rappers."

On The Come Up: Boldy James
Site users know On The Come Up as a text piece, we used to do it weekly, breaking down rappers on the rise who you should keep an eye and an ear out for. Now we're taking On The Come Up to the next level, and turning it into a video piece. You can still expect it weekly, every Wednesday, only, now you'll get to watch and hear from the rapper directly. To kick it off, we connected with Detroit spitter and Mass Appeal signee Boldy James.

    Nas "The Ride" Hennessy Commercial
Nas recently linked up with Hennessy to shoot this new advertisement dubbed “The Ride”. Taking a trip down memory lane, the legendary Queens emcee hops on the train and recites an a capella version of his track “NY State Of Mind”, while traveling through time & his memories. Not exactly sure how the ad, Nas, and Hennessy all correlate with each other here, but it’s still definitely worth the watch nonetheless.

Nas Performs "N.Y. State Of Mind" On Jimmy Fallon
Although Nas hasn't released new music since 2012's Life Is Good, 2014 has been exceptionally kind to him, seeing a documentary, tour, guest spots and TV appearances added to his already-lengthy resume. The bulk of that is due to an extended 20th birthday party for his landmark debut, Illmatic (seriously, this thing has gone on for months), which continued last night on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon."

  • Nas "Represent" Video
    Nas "Represent" Video
The Illmatic 20-year celebrations continue today, with the release of an official music video for the cut "Represent" off the 1994 album. Nas invited fans to collaborate and produce the visual for "Represent," which was shot at YouTube Space in Los Angeles. The black and white video is a mix of very old school clips and close-ups of Nasir himself, and works almost as a silent film with captions appearing through out. Was it worth the 20-year wait to see the very first official music video for "Represent"?
