Diplo is a great collaborator. He's collaborated with Switch on Major Lazer before that turned in to a project with Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. He's collaborated with Skrillex most recently on the Jack Ü project. He's collaborated with tons of artists in the hip hop world, along with pop and rock worlds too. He's done work with Justin Bieber, Die Antwoord, Beyonce and Iggy Azealia, and that just shows off his ranger. His best work has been with the likes of M.I.A., 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes, among others.

In 2002, one-hit-wonder Tweet, dropped that one hit that jumped to number one on Billboard' hip hop chart and all the way to lucky number seven on the hot 100 chart. "Oops" featuring the Queen of the millennium, Missy Elliot, and produced by Timbaland, was played more on the radio than any other hit that year (if my memory serves me correctly), as it was remixed by several star rappers like Fabulous and Bubba Sparx.

Kid Ink's sophomore effort hit the Billboard 200 this week, although it didn't perform quite as well as his debut My Own Lane. My Own Lane pushed 50,000 copies out opening week, which was deemed a strong release, especially for an independently-signed rapper's debut. However, Full Speed moved less than 40k opening week. The album itself is exactly what you expect to hear from Ink, with a lot of radio potential, and top tier features. So what's lacking here? Perhaps once one of his many singles takes off it'll translate into a sales boost.

This week has been a mixed bag, which is unfortunate since it started off good. Missy Elliott came back, messed around and stole Iggy Azalea's Super Bowl performance. Will this put impetus on Missy E to put out a new album soon? One can hope.

There was  a time where Rihanna was being considered to do the halftime show at this year's Super Bowl, but unfortunately the NFL (as the NFL tends to do) totally blew it. Now, we've got what is not quite the next best thing, but is something, with Katy Perry taking the reins on the show. After the nipplegate over-correction, which gave us a couple years of performances from artists who were too old to offend anyone, the NFL eventually got back to the current superstar format, enlisting the Black Eyed Peas, Madonna, Beyonce, and Bruno Mars for the last few events.

As 2013 came to an end, countless voices in music and specifically in the realm of Hip Hop projected that 2014 would be the year of the female MC breakthrough. From a surface point of view, a "breakthrough" for the female rapper sounds as though they have yet to be discovered or haven’t properly developed as artists. However, if at all forgotten, there was a notable eon in Hip Hop when female MCs were not only noteworthy but successful in album sales; thus allowing them to be somewhat comparable to the men of the male-dominant industry.

"This is ladies night and our rhymes is tight, oh this is ladies night...," Missy Elliott sang on the 1997 hit track, "Ladies Night" that she collaborated on with Angie Martinez, Lil Kim, Left Eye and Da Brat. The song was featured on the "Nothing to Lose" soundtrack. Just as the MCs mentioned above occupied space and declared their reign on "Ladies Night", women rappers have been doing the same in Hip Hop culture ever since it was started in the Bronx.

Hip Hop’s favorite sample has the least Hip Hop origins. Jerry Lordan, a British RAF veteran and part-time songwriter, was inspired by the story Massai - who was the last Apache left after Chief Geronimo surrendered New Mexico to the United States. Lordan composed the riff and legendary British guitarist Bert Weedon originally recorded it.
