Top Tracks: November 23 - November 29
No one was more thankful last week than hip-hop fans.
How Meek Mill Can Bounce Back From His Summer Slump
At the end of June, things were looking better for Meek Mill than they had in a while. Having just been released from prison six months prior, he was dating the hottest and most talented female rapper in the game, and saw the long-delayed Dreams Worth More Than Money receive rave reviews and the number one spot on the Billboard 100.
Rick Ross Claims To Be One Of The Biggest Ghostwriters In Rap
Rick Ross just got off house arrest, and while he's happy to be a free man, the time spent in seclusion gave him a lot of time to reflect -- ultimately inspiring the material for his upcoming studio album Black Market. In a new interview with Time magazine, the MMG bawse talked about one of the records that was inspired by this introspective time in his life, the sure-to-be informative "Ghostwriter," which will find him musing on being one of the biggest writers in the business (we knew he did some stuff for Diddy, but otherwise this is news to us).
Funkmaster Flex Disses Drake Again
Following Meek Mill's now infamous Twitter attack on Drake, Funkmaster Flex was one of the few who rushed to the rapper's side, playing a number of Quentin Miller reference tracks on his radio show, and taking shots at Drizzy all the while. Now that the beef is over, it's been generally agreed upon that Drake came out on top, but it hasn't stopped Funk Flex from taking a random shot at the rapper during a DJ set at Jadakiss' show in NYC Saturday night.
Meek Mill's "Dreamchasers 4" Is Coming At The End Of December
Yesterday, Meek Mill shared the artwork to Dreamchasers 4 and said that the mixtape was coming "very soon." Though Meek hasn't offered a release date, Rick Ross recently revealed to DJ Skee that DC4 is coming at the end of December, after Ross' own album, Black Market, which is set for release on December 4.
Stream The Soundtrack For "Creed" Featuring Joey Bada$$, Future, Nas & More
The "Creed" movie, which stars Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone, hits movie theatres in five days. The official soundtrack for the film arrives a few days prior to the movie premiere, with a stream available via Spotify today. We've had a lot of album streams hit the web today already, so adding to that list, you'll find new (and old) music from the likes of Meek Mill, Future, Joey Bada$$, Nas, Childish Gambino, Jhene Aiko, Vince Staples, Krept & Konan and others.
Meek Mill Teases "Dreamchasers 4" Artwork
We've almost entirely moved on from the Meek Mill and Drake beef, which, if anything damaged the instigator more than the target. While Meek Mill dusts off his shoulders, and continues to remind us he has the chick that Drizzy couldn't seem to get, he's teasing fans with some possible artwork for his Dreamchasers mixtape series.
50 Cent Clowns Meek Mill For Getting Bodied By Drake's "Back To Back"
50 Cent has managed to stay in the headlines throughout his current visit to the E.U. And he seems intent on making enemies with all of MMG.
Meek Mill Was Asked About Drake On Live TV
Meek Mill can't even go to a basketball game without being reminded of his beef with Drake. Meek was in attendance at last night's Sixers face-off with the Cavs, and naturally, an NBC reporter found him in the crowd to get a couple comments about the team -- though he probably wasn't expecting to get into the hard questions. It's unclear if the reporter was well-aware of how uncomfortable bringing up Drake might make Meek -- perhaps she was just trying to ask a light-hearted question about a fellow rapper unbeknownst to the drama that went down a few months back.
DJ Drama's Ex-Wife Says He Gave Drake's Reference Tracks To Meek Mill
Just when you thought the Meek Mill x Drake saga had finally fizzled out, it resurfaces back up on us. On Monday afternoon, ATL producer DJ Drama got into an altercation on twitter with his ex-wife Summer P Walker, when she decided to drop a bomb about the Drake reference tracks that were leaked for Meek Mill over the Summer.
Meek Mill Is Going At Wale On Instagram Again
Despite Rick Ross' insistence that things were all good in the MMG camp, Meek Mill has decided to target Wale once again in his latest Instagram post.
Everything You Need To Know About Kodak Black
Kodak Black is the best high-school rapper in the country. The 18-year-old from Pompano Beach, Florida also happens to be one of a few young artists on Drake's radar. As Earl Sweatshirt warned upon hearing of Drake's discovery of Florida's best kept secret, let's not give too much credit to the 6 God's discerning ears, as Kodak has already built a movement solely off his own credentials, with over 50 songs and/or videos with 6-digit hits on YouTube.
Nicki Minaj & Meek Mill Are Buying A House Together
After seeing a ring, we thought marriage. When Nicki called Meek her "baby father," we (naturally) thought she was pregnant. Well, there won't be any prenups or baby bumps, but the couple is set on buying a house together. And a very big one at that.
Meek Mill's Instagram Has Been Flooded With Drake Birthday Wishes
If you've been on social media today, you may have been alerted to the fact that it's Drake's 29th birthday. If you're Meek Mill, there's absolutely no way you missed it. Fan hives tend to go to war in the Instagram comments of rival artists, and Drake's stanbase has been hard at work on their favorite rapper's bday, flooding Meek Mill's comment section with birthday wishes. It's been going on all day, but things have only ramped up since news broke that Meek had some comments for the 6 God last night.
Meek Mill Takes Shots At Drake During Powerhouse Philly
Meek Mill was fairly quiet after taking what most have deemed an L from Drake, but over the last few days he's started speaking out once again, referencing What A Time To Be Alive on Instagram, getting involved in an Instagram beef with Wale, and -- as of last night -- dissing Drake on stage.
Powerhouse NYC 2015 Recap
Two nights after hosting TIDAL X 1020, Barclays Center played host to Powerhouse NYC, the annual showcase concert put on by NYC radio station Power 105.1. The billing promised Jidenna, Omarion, Jeremih, Meek Mill, Fetty Wap, Big Sean, Future, Kendrick Lamar. But the true measure of such a showcase event is the surprise guests. All those who attended Powerhouse knew this, and they quivered with anticipation as they began to file into the spacious Brooklyn arena.
Rick Ross Says Meek Mill & Wale's Beef Is Over
Things weren't looking good for the untouchable Maybach empire last night. After Wale spoke about Meek Mill's beef with Drake on a recent Breakfast Club interview, Meek attempted to revoke the D.C. rapper's membership from MMG, writing, "He not MMG I'M MAKING THAT CALL," on Instagram.
Rick Ross Supports Wale Following Meek Mill's Instagram Tirade
Yesterday (Oct. 21), Meek Mill's Instagram fingers got the best of him, as he went on an extended tirade against Wale, in which he attempted to cut the D.C. rapper from the MMG roster: "He not MMG IM MAKING THAT CALL," wrote Meek in the since-deleted post (which you can still see here).
Rick Ross Says "Self Made 4" Is Coming "Sooner Than You Think"
It's been two years since the MMG crew came together for an instalment in their Self Made series, and although they announced the fourth instalment, Self Made 4, in April, it's looking like now they're finally ready to begin the rollout.
Is Meek Mill Making A "Back To Back" Remix?
A clip obtained by the Shade Room clearly depicts Meek Mill throwing down bars over the Noah "40" Shebib-produced "Back to Back" instrumental. Although his intentions are unclear, it's unlikely that he was just casually freestyling over a diss track directly at him. Is a "Back to Back " remix in the works? Would it be a rebuttal diss track, or simply a straightforward remix?
