Maino Talks Recent NY Prison Escape On CNN

If you didn’t hear, two convicted murderers escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York this past weekend and have been on the run ever since. Reminiscent of something out of a movie, the two inmates used power tools to cut through a steel wall and followed a series of tunnels, before emerging from a manhole outside the prison walls. CNN, who’s been all over this national matter, decided to invite rapper Maino onto their set to talk about the escape and his very own experiences at that prison. Watch the 8-minute chat above.

As much as New York is the center of hip-hop media, it can be a tough place to break out of, even when the promotion is there. Vado, Red Cafe, Maino, and Jamie Drastik are all rappers from the area who have been in the game for a minute, but haven't been able to build a fanbase nation-wide.  DJ Suss. One has assembled them all for one song, as the rappers take on an aggressive trap-inspired beat, proving their versatility. This one will certainly get some spins in New York, but hopefully it'll be picked up in Atlanta and some of the other rap hotspots nationwide as well.

If you're making a track called "Welcome 2 Brooklyn," then you'd do well to include the self-proclaimed "king" of the borough on it. That's exactly what M.O.P did for their track of that name, enlisting the self-coronated Maino for a feature on the song. Now it's gotten a video.

Maino gets his talk on in our 11-minute interview with the Brooklyn native. After delivering his second instalment of King of Brooklyn in November, we spoke to the rapper on his self-appointed king title as well as his native neighborhood. Maino talks about being a voice for his peers and the streets alike, as well as fellow New York rappers who may not necessarily rep the NY sound (which he says is completely okay).

What's this -- Maino isn't wearing his "King Of Brooklyn" crown in his new video? The visuals for "I Pray," a track taken from the self-coronated rapper's recent King Of Brooklyn 2 project, have arrived today, and perhaps in respect to whatever King Of Kings he's praying to, Maino appears sans his usual golden headpiece.

In light of the recent decisions made on the Michael Brown & Eric Garner cases, Uncle Murda & Maino decide to take this opportunity and release a new visual for their collab “Hands Up”. Directed by Picture Perfect, the video pays tribute to the Eric Garner case specifically, and shows disturbing imagery and clips of the police brutality that's happening everywhere in our streets today. The powerful message is definitely felt and portrayed in this visual above. Check it out.

Maino is reinforcing his claim of running BK on his upcoming mixtape, King Of Brooklyn 2, and today he's shared a video for a re-release track from the new effort. Linking up with fellow New York resident (and former star of The Wire), Mack Wilds, Maino has put together a bid for radio and video play with the for-the-ladies jam. It's reminiscent of Vado's Jeremih hook-lead "My Bae".  The video finds the two artists enjoying a New York summer with a few ladies. What do you think of the visual?
