    When hip-hop began, samples were all that DJs and producers had to construct instrumental tracks with. They'd dig through crates of vinyl trying to find isolated drum breaks, melodies or vocals that they could repurpose for use in hip-hop music. Today, sampling has become less common, but a choice sample can still push a track from lukewarm to hot faster than you can say "uh-huh honey".

    Mac Miller announced recently during a live show that he would be dropping a new mixtape on Mother's Day aka May 11th. The rapper even debuted new music off the mixtape for the crowd, although didn't reveal a project title at the time. Now that we are nearing the month of May, Mac has decided to let fans know what his mixtape is titled. Taking to Twitter, the Pittsburgh MC shared that the title is Faces. He later added that "Faces just got a lot crazier", although didn't elaborate as to how/what.

    Mac Miller has been extremely prolific over the last year or so, and seems that his output is only accelerating. Last night, during a show at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Miller announced that he'll be releasing a new mixtape this mother's day, which is May 11th in case you were wondering (now you definitely won't forget, amirite?). On top of the announcement, the rapper performed three new cuts from the project, while one was still untitled, the following two were "Therapy" and "Insomniac".

    Mac Miller had a huge 2013, but he's still looking up to some of the bigger artists in the game right now. In a new interview, Mac applauded Drake's approach to his album rollout, a method that has become more and more elaborate for most artists, but one that Drake has kept solely about the music. "Look, this is the name of the game for 2014," said Mac. "D.A.D.D. Do As Drake Does. Drake got the game on lock, if you want to watch how anyone releases music and puts out an album, watch Drake."

As much as he's blown up in the past two years, the 21-year-old Pittsburg emcee is still very much down to earth.

     A Pittsburgh area rapper who has been affiliated with Mac Miller is in a boat load of trouble. The artist, Hardo, has been arrested for having quite a bit of heroin in his possession. Hardo, who was born Joseph Barnett Jr., was stopped by police in Wilkinsburg, Penn. on Sept. 10th for running a red light. While he was detained, the cops allegedly spotted a shopping bag with 250 baggies of heroin.
