LL Cool J has had a couple of different approaches to his late career output. Fans dismissed his attempt to appeal to the younger generation with the trend-hopping club record, "Ratchet", the negative reception causing him to rethink his strategy and go back-to-basics on Authentic.

LL Cool J has been releasing new music lately, as he preps a new album G.O.A.T. 2.

It's happened y'all. LL Cool J's experimenting with trap. When he wrote this aggressive new track, "Break Your Face," he probably thought that it needed some backing that was more in your face than his usual boom-bap, so he enlisted 808 Mafia to make this monster of a beat.  With a hook that involves grabbing brass knuckles and carrying out the titular task, Cool J sounds angrier than he has since the "Mama Said Knock You Out" days, rapping with a ferocity that matches the beat's unforgiving sonic qualities.

We've heard a artists take on Tinashe's hit single "2 On" over the last little while, most recently the Drake and O.B. mix, which certainly brought a lot more attention to the already buzzing single. The latest rapper to try his hand at the DJ Mustard-produced number is LL Cool J, who decided to bring an entirely new vibe to the remix, a refreshing take considering most freestyles these days borrow not only the instrumental, but the entire flow of the original.

After releasing his G.O.A.T. album fourteen years ago in 2000, LL Cool J is only now working on the project's sequel with G.O.A.T. 2. Last month we caught the project's first single with “The Hustler”, and today he’s back at it with the second offering called “Im Nice”, featuring the chef Raekwon, Ron Browz and Murda Mook.

LL Cool J has been in the game for nearly 30 years, and yet he still continues to stay relevant and release new music. After releasing his G.O.A.T. album fourteen years ago in 2000, LL has recently announced that a sequel is on the way with G.O.A.T. 2. Tonight, LL comes through and drops off the album’s first single in “The Hustler” featuring Mavado. Instead of aiming his music at the ladies, LL takes it to the streets and delivers a dark and gritty single that’s produced by Jerry Wonda. This is pretty mean.

DJ Whoo Kid is prepping a new compilation titled The N-Word Bond Project, and recruited LL Cool J to appear on a track, which he premiered today on Shade 45. In fact, it was Def Jam co-founder Russel Simmons who did the honor of playing the song, appearing on the radio show in promotion of his new book, Success Through Stillness. The production has a minimal feel reminiscent of LL's early work, though the vocal sample its built off of makes so that it never gets quite as simple as Rick Rubin's "reduction" work on the rapper's debut.

Weird story behind this one. After playing LL Cool J's "I Need Love" on his radio show (as per request by Kevin Hart), DJ Whoo Kid decided to call up LL and give him a challenge. The DJ did just that, daring the legendary rapper to write a 16 to Kid Ink's "Main Chick" on the spot. Apparently, this was not too difficult for LL, who presented the recorded verse about 30-40 minutes later. The results of the challenge are now available for the people. Did LL do the track justice?
