The recording is decidedly lo-fi, which means either Cudder is purposely giving us a distorted view of his new music, or he's about to drop the hottest Guided By Voices album of 2015.

Pat and Haynes have been two of the primary architects of Cudder's sound up to this point.

Indie-Cud: A Timeline Of Kid Cudi's Indie Collabs & Samples
When A Kid Named Cudi first began making the rounds in late 2008, it seemed to appeal to people of all musical backgrounds, with Kid Cudi rapping over a decidedly wide variety of source material. There were instrumentals cribbed from backpacker favorites Outkast and J Dilla, but also ones from little-known electronic producers and Pacific Northwest indie rock bands, setting Cudi apart from his competition in the online rap world.

The Yeezus Blessing: A History Of Kanye West's Co-Signs
You may not agree with everything Kanye West says--in fact, it would be worrisome if you did--but you can't deny his omnipotence as a tastemaker. If Kanye says it's hot, it's hot. Many of today's household names were once unknowns, and thanks to Yeezy, we can now enjoy their them in their full spotlight. He's released seven albums, none of them less-than-great, and that doesn't even touch on the classic records he's produced, including his own.

140 Bars Or Less: Tweets Of The Week (January 16)
Nothing too new is going on in the game this past week. In other words, hip-hop is just going right now. And that's not bad: Vince Staples is alive and still hating on Chris Paul, Jay Z still knows how to tweet, Meek Mill is still free and he's #woke. Common and John Legend won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song ("Glory" from Selma), but other than that, things have been a 40 degree day. The tweets are still fire though.

Cole etc. trade customary release dates for something a little more exciting and spontaneous.
