140 Bars Or Less: Tweets Of The Week (January 16)
Nothing too new is going on in the game this past week. In other words, hip-hop is just going right now. And that's not bad: Vince Staples is alive and still hating on Chris Paul, Jay Z still knows how to tweet, Meek Mill is still free and he's #woke. Common and John Legend won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song ("Glory" from Selma), but other than that, things have been a 40 degree day. The tweets are still fire though.

Pulling A "Beyonce": The Surprise Album Phenom
The trend of surprise albums has definitely caused a shift in the traditional method of releasing music. Cole etc. trade customary release dates for something a little more exciting and spontaneous.

The other day Lupe Fiasco took to Twitter to declare a new initiative for his fans. Lupe announced he'd be offering up a personalized one verse song for fans for the price of $500. He made it clear this is not for a feature or collaboration, but for the fan's own personal enjoyment. There were some stipulations of course, one of which is that you would have to come pick up a physical copy of the CD in person, pay the $500 in cash, and sign a usage contract. The whole endeavor has left some people scratching their heads, one of whom appears to be Kid Cudi.

Review: Kid Cudi's "Satellite Flight: The Journey To Mother Moon"
Although none of his albums have really been critical hits, Kid Cudi’s main appeal is using outside, atypical influences and sounds to articulate some sort of emotional journey into the tortured soul. He’s connected with his young adult audience by embodying this idea of the discontent, rebellious youth with some sticky hooks for good measure — can one ever truly get “Day ‘N’ Nite” out of his/her head?
