Top Tracks: May 9 - May 15
In contrast with the first few months of 2015, when it seemed like our Top Tracks lists were just the same Kanye and Drake tracks rising and falling with each ensuing week, the past few editions have been utter chaos, with the #1 spot changing every week. Staying power is proving difficult to achieve in an increasingly crowded summer playing field-- Beyoncé and Birdman's chart-toppers from two and one week ago, respectively, are nowhere to be found this week, although a few of the lower-ranking tracks stuck it out.

Charts Don't Lie: March 30
The Billboard 200 looks real familiar this week, with only one new hip hop release debuting, and very little changing elsewhere on the charts. Rihanna goes from #1 to #3 with her ANTI record, and pretty much everyone else follows her lead by slipping down the charts. Kendrick slides most notably by going from #5 to #16 with his untitled unmastered. project (after debuting at #1 three weeks ago, nevertheless).
Charts Don't Lie: March 9
With the appearance of a brand new #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, each and every hip hop release highlighted below slipped over the past week, with the exception of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who debuted at #4. That's a pretty wild trend to see: Rihanna went from #2 to #3, The Weeknd went from #6 to #12, Kevin Gates went from #9 to #13, so on and so forth.
Kevin Gates Claims Apple Revealed "Islah" Outsold Rihanna's "Anti"
Yesterday, Kevin Gates stopped by DC radio show The Fam in the Morning.
Charts Don't Lie: March 2
With Adele taking the #1 spot again this week, the top-selling album in the country alludes the hip hop industry. It wasn't a total loss though, however, as Rihanna jumps from #3 to #2 with her newest record ANTI. Does Rihanna have what it takes to beat out Adele next week? Time will tell...
Charts Don't Lie: February 24
Following the Grammys there was a surge that gave hip hop artists a boost in sales. For example, Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly jumped up from #60 to #16 after crushing it at the award show. The Weeknd also jumped from #12 back into the top 10, landing at #6 for his post-Grammy week on the charts.
Charts Don't Lie: February 17
The Billboard Chart saw a new number one this week in the form of Future, whose album EVOL is currently the top-selling album in the country. Apparently rolling it out on DJ Khaled's radio show wasn't such a bad idea, as the record has sold nearly 100k in its first week. Making way for Future's climb to the top is Rihanna, who slipped from #1 to #3 this week.
Charts Don't Lie: February 10
The Billboard 200 Chart shifted considerably over the past week, leaving artists like Tank in the dust as the likes of Rihanna and Kevin Gates rose to take the #1 and #2 positions, respectively. Rihanna's album, which debuted at #27 last week, claimed the #1 position we all expected it to have. The reasoning for the weak debut was on a technicality, but now that the album is properly available, it moved nearly 125,000 units.
Rihanna's "ANTI" Goes #1; Kevin Gates' "Islah" Not Far Behind
After a first week that yielded only 460 album sales (and 1.47 million free downloads), Rihanna's ANTI has soared to the top of the charts and dethroned Adele's 25.
Sales Projections For Kevin Gates & Rihanna Are In
Rihanna's ANTI has had a weird first week of sales. Dropping Wednesday evening on Tidal (to compete with an unfortunate leak), it had under 48 hours left in the sales week to do numbers, and even then they were stream-only (outside of 460 copies that somehow managed to trickle through early). As a result, it debuted at #27 on the charts.
Review: Kevin Gates' "Islah"
In a sea of melodic Southern rappers defined by their contradictions, Kevin Gates easily stands out as the most extreme. Future makes us feel his pain as he's simultaneously talking about women as if they were a disposable resource; Rich Homie Quan's behind some of the best trap love songs of all time, but also the rapey-ist ones in recent memory; Young Thug packs more vivid imagery than a Cormac McCarthy novel into his lyrics, but seems aloof and curt in person. Gates is simply all over the place.
Stream Kevin Gates' "Islah"
After a few delays, Kevin Gates is ready to let fans hear Islah in full. The album, which is named after his daughter, finds the Baton Rouge rapper adopting some more mainstream practices through out-- it is his first album released via a major label, Atlantic.
Kevin Gates Tells His Life Story Over Adele's "Hello"
Kevin Gates' music is so hard it makes one wonder what type of music he actually takes inspiration from. Well, the answer might surprise you, as Gates recently revealed that his favorite song of the moment is "Hello," Adele's smash hit that has been No. 1 on the Billboard 100 for 10 weeks in a row. "That's the theme song to my life," Gates told the All Out Show on Sirius XM.
