Top 5 Miguel X Rapper Collabs
Top 5 Miguel X Rapper Collabs Jun 10, 2015 at 02:47pm
Miguel isn't the most prolific artist in R&B, but he's one of the most inimitable. As he's become an undeniable fashion icon and sex-symbol, he's still managed to evolve his sound with each subsequent record, sounding like the second-coming of Prince-- less dancey, but more sexy. He's an artist of his own breed, which is why we don't see him on features as much as most R&B artists, who get more hype off their guest appearances on rap albums than on their solo work.

Summer Jam 2015 Recap Jun 8, 2015 at 07:24pm
Summer's here, and festival season has arrived. Unfortunately, for hip-hop heads, most of the summer's premier music destinations are filled with laptop DJs or bands that introduced your parents to LSD 40 years ago. Luckily, for all of us on the East Coast, there's Summer Jam. Though it's just one day, the HOT 97-curated concert features over 10 hours of straight hip-hop in Giants' stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

An Analysis Of "Money Trees Deuce" Vs. "Money Trees" Jun 3, 2015 at 01:02pm
After Kendrick Lamar delivered upon the immense anticipation surrounding his third album, To Pimp a Butterfly, the follow-up to 2012's game-changing good kid, M.A.A.D city, it looks like the next album out of the TDE camp will come from Jay Rock, who hasn't put out an LP since Summer 2011. Yesterday (June 2), we got Jay's first single of 2015, "Money Trees Deuce," which happens to be a sequel to a record on K-Dot's GKMC, one on which Jay Rock laid his most noteworthy verse ever.

Analyzing "To Pimp A Butterfly" Against "At.Long.Last.A$AP" Jun 2, 2015 at 02:52pm
The year 2015 is proving to be a landmark year for hip-hop, with seemingly every week having at least one noteworthy release.  Perhaps most appealing to onlookers of the genre is the budding growth of some of the best emcees this generation has to offer.

Kendrick Lamar Is Only Performing One "To Pimp A Butterfly" Song Live Jun 1, 2015 at 10:18am
When artists tour behind a recently-released album, there's kind of an unwritten rule that they'll perform at least a few tracks from it at every show. That's not holding true for Kendrick Lamar on his post-To Pimp A Butterfly summer dates, which is especially bewildering when you consider how well-received the album was.

It was another less-than-stellar week on the Billboard 200, at least for rap releases. Jamie Foxx managed to sneak into the top ten with his new LP, Hollywood: A Story of A Dozen, but for the most part we saw the big releases continuing their slow descent into top 30-40 territory. Slowly but surely, Drake and J. Cole are still in a tight race toward platinum status, with IYRTITL just barely edging out 2014FHD.

Kendrick Lamar Scores First Number One Record
Kendrick Lamar Scores First Number One Record May 27, 2015 at 06:52pm
Teaming up with Taylor Swift might be the absolute safest way to get a number one on the Hot 100, and when it's paired with the hype for the "Bad Blood" video, it's pretty much a guarantee. Not so surprisingly, Kendrick Lamar and Swift's remix of "Bad Blood" jumped to the top spot this week after setting a VEVO record for streams on its first day. This is Kendrick Lamar's first #1, which ties him with Drake, who got to the top spot through his Rihanna collab, "What's My Name".

Let’s get to it. 10) Taylor Swift ft. Kendrick Lamar – Bad Blood (Remix) Hell, if Rod Stewart can get a moment in the hip-hop sun, why not Tay Tay?
Kendrick Lamar Covers Ebony Magazine
Kendrick Lamar Covers Ebony Magazine May 22, 2015 at 09:59pm
Thanks in part to his majorly successful sophomore album To Pimp A Butterfly, Kendrick Lamar was asked to cover June’s edition of Ebony Magazine in honor of Black Music Month. Recognizing millennial music artists who’ve been breaking down boundaries, making waves and changing the game of popular music, I think it’s a no brainer why Ebony Mag asked K. Dot to fulfill these duties. With a cover story to follow, fans can check out K. Dot’s presence on the cover below, along with some behind the scenes footage of his photo shoot as well.

After years of embarking on a grueling journey to stardom, Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, and Jay Rock finally made it. They came up from nothing and are now swimming in the pools of success. Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q both stunned with their respective albums and have forged lanes of their own as Cali's most talented artists. Ab-Soul and Jay Rock aren't lame duck emcees either and can tango with any of your favorite rappers. With the burgeoning development of Isaiah Rashad and SZA, TDE looks to stay on top for years to come.
