By The Numbers: Kendrick Lamar's "Section.80" 5 Years Later Jul 2, 2016 at 01:20pm
Kendrick Lamar earned himself a passionate following through his many mixtape releases, and later found huge critical acclaim through the release of his two densely conceptual major label releases, good kid, MAAD city, and To Pimp A Butterfly, but for many, it all began with Section.80, the rapper's first retail release through Top Dawg Entertainment, and in many ways, the blueprint for his later work. Ever since Drake was mentioned in Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse, there has been speculation of a tension between the two rappers. While Drake did seem to be a bit offended by the namedrop on Kendrick's record, the proposed bad blood between the two rappers has depended on the assumption of a number of "subliminal" disses and no concrete evidence. However, according to a new report from former NFL player and current ESPN host, Marcellus Wiley, the beef was very real, and came close to escalating exponentially due to an interview which was never aired.
