Last night, Kendrick Lamar, or someone at Interscope, perhaps, released To Pimp a Butterfly a week ahead of its initial March 23 release date. Already the most anticipated album of the year, Kendrick's follow-up to Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City is unlike anything he's ever done, though it could've only come from the man himself.

It's safe to say that most of us have been listening to Kendrick Lamar's new album, To Pimp A Butterfly, since the early hours of the morning, when it suddenly dropped online. Whether it happened inadvertently or was concocted as part of some weird marketing scheme, it's out now, and listeners are rejoicing (for the most part).

One of the most interesting moments on Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly comes in the lengthy closer, "Mortal Man," when he simulates a conversation with Tupac by sampling a rare interview with the West Coast legend. As the album opener, "Wesley's Theory," includes a sound bite from Dr. Dre, the album is bookended by quotes from two of Cali's greatest.

Earlier tonight, Kendrick Lamar shocked the hip-hop world by releasing "To Pimp a Butterfly" a week ahead of the album's initial March 23 release date. We thought the early release was Kendrick's effort to beat the leakers, but according to TDE boss Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, the TDE camp was not on board.

With the singles "i" and "The Blacker the Berry" already out, expectations will be sky-high for Kendrick's third album, and none higher than those of TDE boss Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith. Kendrick Lamar has been kind of stingy with sharing new music this year, leaking tracks off his untitled album sparingly. The two official singles he has shared, "i" and "The Blacker the Berry," are enough to get most of us hype for what's to come, and fiend for more (so the plan is working).

It's no accident that most festival lineups are announced in the dead of winter. The thought of seeing your favorite artists performing on a beautiful summer day seems so unattainable during the miserably cold season that buying tickets to an event 6 months away seems like your only escape.

North Carolina's Patrick Douthit isn't like most hip-hop stars. He's uninterested with chains, fame, cars, clothes and objectifying women. He's concerned with honoring classic soul music through his sample-based hip-hop beats. That has been enough to catch the attention of Jay Z, Beyonce, De La Soul, Kendrick Lamar, Big K.R.I.T., Erykah Badu and many more.

The Grammys bring all of recorded popular music together under one roof. It's the only time you can see Snoop Dogg and Billy Joel at the same party (because Billy's a Piru for life).  After several years of awkwardly sitting rap's biggest stars next to pop's schmaltziest, some enterprising show producer decided to bring that contrast to the main stage, throwing rap artists and pop artists together to see what sticks.

5 Times The Grammys Got 'Best Rap Album' Wrong

With the Grammys coming up this Sunday, we thought it would be a good idea to take a look at the times they have upset us, the hip-hop community, the most. Because nobody is perfect and the Grammys are certainly no exception.  While there are a few time they got the 'Best Rap Album' right (and we will take a look at the flip side of this list later today, so keep an eye out), there have also been quite a few instances where they picked the absolute wrong album, upon general consensus.
