JQ stands for Jaquell.
JQ was born Makency Chevelon, August 24, 1982 to two Haitian immigrant parents who came to the US in search for a better life.
As far as JQ can remember, music has been his life. The day JQ found his passion for music, his mother was playing Tina Turner, Michael Jackson and Madonna. Performing at the tender age five, JQ planted a seed of passion on the stage which grew as he did at the same time.
JQ has opened performances for Pretty Ricky, Foxy Brown, Wyclef Jean, Beanie Man; just to name a few. Throughout his musical career, JQ has gained great experiences followed by trials and tribulations. Great experiences from working on tracks with Jim Johnson, Eddie Mix and Power 96, Kool & Dre, The Diaz Brothers, Static Major; and again; that’s just to name a few.
Being acquired by Universal Black Ground in which the deal did not go through, he took it hard; feeling as if his music was not good enough for recognition. What made matters worse was he felt like he let everyone in his life down. Then he turned to the LORD for guidance. That is when the LORD pulled out his jumper cables and recharged a dead battery full. JQ has since been in the studio recording his second mixtape ‘Witness Me Eat These Beats’.
With ranges of style and versatility, JQ does not only bring swag to the game but he brings a cliff no one has dared to jump off yet!
