Top 10 Hip Hop Tracks That Sample Prince
Top 10 Hip Hop Tracks That Sample Prince Apr 21, 2016 at 05:14pm
What would hip hop even look like if we lived in a world where Prince never existed? It'd be much less colorful and funky, I"m sure, and some of its most vibrant artists would never have had the courage to step out of the box were it not for one of the weirdest artists of all time. André 3000, Kanye West, Pharrell, The-Dream, and Young Thug (so basically, all of The Life Of Pablo's squad) in particular have Prince to thank for some, if not most, of their musical and/or fashion styles, and the rest of the rap game isn't far off either.

Dame Dash Says Lyor Cohen "Ruined Roc-A-Fella" Jun 30, 2014 at 04:59pm
Dame Dash has made more headlines in 2014 for his beefs with industry folks like Funkmaster Flex and Steve Stoute than he has for any music or business moves, and it seems he's continuing down that path.

Ab-Soul's following continues to grow, despite his lack of releases since 2012's dense Control System. In an interview with the Miami New Times, Soulo explained why the project continues to gain him followers, as well as speaking on the blatant honesty that comes with refraining from writing rhymes down, and the knowledge he's been able to acquire through listening to hip hop alone. Read some excerpts from the sit-down below.

Yesterday, we learned that Kendrick Lamar fulfilled a wish he's had ever since the "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe" remix ("In the White House with a mink/Running through that bitch like it's my house," although he didn't seem to be wearing any fur at the time), paying a visit to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave as a guest of one of his biggest fans, President Obama. He and his crew were given a tour, hitting a rap squat along the way, and making for a pretty historic moment.

Every Rap Single To Go #1 On The Hot 100
Every Rap Single To Go #1 On The Hot 100 Apr 21, 2016 at 09:17am
If you've been watching the charts over the last few years, you'll know that rap isn't dominating the Hot 100, and many of the songs that do make their way to the number one spot might no necessarily represent the genre all that well. Looking back at all the prior rap #1s on the Hot 100, this trend moves in waves. In the early 90s, we saw acts like Vanilla Ice and Marky Mark earning the highest honors of chart presence, but by the early 00s, the reigning singles on the chart were largely authentic rap and R&B songs.

The Road To Jay Electronica's "Act II: Patents Of Nobility"
The Road To Jay Electronica's "Act II: Patents Of Nobility" Mar 6, 2015 at 07:37pm
Jay Electronica is now 38 years old. It's been nearly eight years since his first mixtape surfaced on the web, nearly five years since he signed with Roc Nation, and nearly four years since he claimed his debut album was finished. Album delays are commonplace these days, but four years? We heard a version of "Shiny Suit Theory" days after Jay E. signed with Hov; that was in November of 2010, and, as far as we know, a version of the track will still appear on the album.

To celebrate Jay Z’s 45th birthday earlier this month, Beyonce & Hov decided to cross the pond and takeover Iceland for some fun in the sun snow. Barring the freezing cold, hip-hop’s most powerful couple rode snowmobiles through the artic, jumped in a helicopter, and then later warmed up with a dip in the Hot Springs. Amongst all their fun though, the couple made time to pay tribute to Mike Brown and pose for a picture with their hands up on the snowmobiles.
