It's that time of the year again - Valentine's Day! The romantic holiday is upon us and we thought we'd share some of the love in the hip-hop community. Love and hip-hop doesn't have to be synonymous with ratchet behavior and baby daddy / momma drama, although you may be under a different impression if you've ever watched a full episode of VH1's Love & Hip-Hop.

    May 28, 2014 at 07:30pm
Jay Z and John Meneilly have worked closely for over a decade, with Meneilly serving as something of a manager for the rapper, though Jay was apparently always reluctant to refer to him as such. The two have reportedly parted ways, and sources conflicted on whether the split was amicable. One industry insider says that Meneilly's departure "wasn’t his choice,” while another says the decision was "mutual" and was made "a couple of months ago".

As Drake said after he concluded his first interview with Nardwuar, a Canadian man who rocks a tartan hat and calls himself the "Human Serviette," "this guy is a legend." There's really no better way to put it: this guy's interviewed everyone from Nirvana to N*E*R*D, and always seems to unearth facts that no other interviewer in the game can. His earnest personality can throw some artists for a loop, but it doesn't take long to realize that despite the quirks, this man is one of the best in the business.

Jay Z made a song dedicated to Tom Ford last year, one of Harlem's hottest rappers wears strictly skinny jeans (A$AP Rocky), and one of the industry's most talked about rappers (Kanye West) is addicted to high-fashion. A little over a decade ago, the genre's finest openly wore baggy clothing, throwback jerseys, and du-rags. It's an understatement to say hip-hop's fashion sense has changed a bit.

Jay Z Has Launched "An Arnold Palmer-esque" Beverage Called "40/40"

Jay Z has already taken over the rap game, and he's now ready to try his hand at the beverage game. Both Jay and Mariah Carey (who's new single "Thirsty" now seems like a subliminal marketing scheme) will be launching beverages through Go N'Syde (helmed by former Def Jam head, Kevin Liles), each with a different flavor and target market.

A tracklist began circulating online earlier today for a possible follow up to Beyoncé's self-titled 2013 LP. Titled Beyoncé Vol. 2, the project appears to be a re-release of the latter, featuring all of the original volume's songs plus an additional eleven tracks. Print at the bottom of the leaked document seems to imply that the new release will be available in a four-disc format, including three DVDs loaded with music videos, live performances, and footage from the "On The Run" tour with Jay-Z.

Ja Rule Recalls Planned Collaborative Album With Jay Z & DMX

Ja Rule, Jay Z, and DMX have had varying degrees of success since, but in the late 90s, all three of them were pretty much on top their game. It was around that time that the three rappers decided to come together for a supergroup, settling for the menacing name Murder Inc. Things never panned out for a full album, and Ja later took the name for his record label, but fans have continued to wonder what could have been for the group.

Though only a few seconds long, Beyonce's latest vid with Blue Ivy is the best thing we've seen on Instagram in a long time. The clip shows Bey and baby Blue flossing, literally, with matching floss picks and matching stunna shades to boot. And during this priceless moment, a new song plays in the background--a beat that bumps along with a sample of a woman repeating "flossin"--and that certainly sounds like Daddy in the background with the ad-libs.

Classic Rotation: Kanye West's "The College Dropout" 10 Years Later

There are albums that are important to their specific genre of music and there are albums that change said genre all together. They have the ability to implement a seismic shift both musically and culturally-- what is accepted, what is cool, style, production, method and so on. It is fair to say that Kanye West's 2004 release, and debut effort, The College Dropout is such an album. It is also fair to say that hip-hop began a transformation (or evolution, if you will) after it dropped.

One of the more notable guest appearances on Jay Z's classic debut album Reasonable Doubt was from a 15-year-old emcee by the name of Memphis Bleek. While Bleek would eventually grow into a solo success, scoring a few hit singles of his own in the early 2000s, the rapper now confirms that his vocals on Jay's debut were entirely ghostwritten by his eventual label head.

Jay Electronica is a strange cat. The New Orleans-born MC now resides in London, where very few rappers decide to claim home. He's released music sporadically throughout his 11 year career, failing to deliver a long-awaited full-length project despite signing to Roc Nation MGMT and rapping alongside the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean and Jay Z.
