J Cole Brings Out Jay-Z, Big Sean, & Drake In Fayetteville Aug 30, 2015 at 12:09am
J. Cole has single-handedly put Fayetteville, NC on the map, and his homecoming concert tonight at Crown Coliseum was always going to be a feel-good event. But Jermaine was not alone. He brought reinforcements. Jay-Z and Big Sean joined J Cole on stage to perform "IDFWU," "Clique" and more before Drake showed up to perform "Energy," "Know Yourself," and other tracks from IYRTITL. Others who made appearances to support Cole on his big night were fellow "Forest Hills Drive" tour acts Jeremih, YG, Bas, Cozz, and Omen.

Rappers are generally hit-or-miss in the concert setting. Some MCs can really rock a crowd while others are notorious for being sloppy, tardy, or brief with their shows. If you've been to a solid handful of rap shows, you've definitely been kept waiting around for an obnoxious amount of time waiting for an MC to show up, only to have him phone in a handful of songs and split. We know we have.
Jay Electronica Disses Drake & J. Cole During Live Show
Jay Electronica Disses Drake & J. Cole During Live Show Aug 19, 2015 at 02:47pm
In hip hop, one of the most important factors in determining an artist's legacy and greatness is still the album. Although some would argue that the medium is past its prime, debates about "legends" or even "best rappers alive" usually involve the artists' discography, which is why this latest Jay Electronica story is so hilarious. During a performance in London last night, the albumless wonder called himself "the God of hip hop" and sent shots at two artists in competition for that title, Drake and J. Cole.

Even when a project is only tangentially connected to Eminem, it tends to sell. Em's executive-production of the soundtrack for Southpaw (as well as some exclusive material) has earned it an admirable debut at number four on the Billboard 200. Meanwhile, Hopsin has come in at 17 with a tally of entirely traditional sales. Future doesn't appear to be leaving the top ten anytime soon, while Meek Mill also keeps his numbers relatively high.Check out the full breakdown below.

Today's a big day for Dreamville Records' Omen. He finally gets to release his debut album, Elephant Eyes, and chooses to do so on a Tuesday, rather than the new industry standard release day, Friday. We've already heard the J. Cole assisted "Things Change," and now we've got a stream of the full eleven track project, courtesy of Spotify.

The Streaming "Game Of Thrones": Drake & Apple Music Vs. Jay-Z & TIDAL Jul 7, 2015 at 04:18pm
It all seemed like fantastic, luxurious, one-percent-y fun and games during the initial TIDAL press conference. Music mogul Sean “Jay-Z” Carter’s launched his rebranding of the year-old streaming service he had recently acquired by strutting out stars of meteoric magnitude, both young and old, shuffled out like battling champions in a proverbial game of thrones. Like a "Song of Ice and Fire," the words burned like an effigy as the music industry (critics, artists, and fans alike) were urged to brace themselves for something new.

Meek Mill was on Power 105 to discuss Dreams Worth More Than Money the other day, and while speaking with Angie Martinez, gave us a window into his personal taste in music. He was quite honest with Martinez, laying it all out there with artists that he both likes and dislikes. Most notably, he said that he wasn't a fan of Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole.

While next week should be more exciting, the last round of rap sales were pretty lacklustre. With ASAP Rocky's album dropping to number 12, it's the first week in some time with no hip hop or R&B in the top ten. The LPs we've seen selling all year are still hanging in, with Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Kendrick Lamar all continuing to sell. Meanwhile, J. Cole has jumped up a few spots, showing that his LP, though released last year, still has some life left in it.Check out the full breakdown below.

J. Cole's fans are the type to vehemently defend him in comment sections everywhere, and while we've yet to see him battling the trolls of HNHH, Cole makes an effort to care for his fans as they do for him. The NC rapper gave fans a chance to give him a call after he released the Revenge Of The Dreamers mixtape, and one conversation landed him in a spoken contract. If Cierra Bosarge was accepted to a four-year university program, Cole agreed that he would attend her high school graduation.
Top 5 Miguel X Rapper Collabs

Miguel isn't the most prolific artist in R&B, but he's one of the most inimitable. As he's become an undeniable fashion icon and sex-symbol, he's still managed to evolve his sound with each subsequent record, sounding like the second-coming of Prince-- less dancey, but more sexy. He's an artist of his own breed, which is why we don't see him on features as much as most R&B artists, who get more hype off their guest appearances on rap albums than on their solo work.

SURF finally came and it is going to be the soundtrack of everyone’s summer. The super-chill collaborative effort by Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment not only makes a serious case for 2015’s most valuable hip-hop album to date thus far, thanks to Chance the Rapper and the rest of DT & TSE, but it has some serious cameos that add to the fun.

After a long wait, SURF is finally here. The debut LP from The Social Experiment (aka SOX) is billed as Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment despite the fact that the band’s biggest star is obviously Chance The Rapper. The album features, although they aren’t listed on the iTunes version of the free album, the likes of J. Cole, Big Sean, B.o.B, Busta Rhymes, and tons more, making SURF one of the year’s most star-studded affairs.

As impressive as the features looked a couple weeks back when the tracklist originally made the rounds, Boosie has now reshaped things and added a couple more big guest spots.

The summer concert season is quickly approaching, as we close out the month of April. It’s comparable to Christmas for avid music fans. It doesn’t get much better than beautiful weather complimented by beautiful people dancing to bass-laden tunes. Excess amounts of cheap alcohol and THC add to the excitement at summer concerts.
